All I knew about Carlton Powell when the Giants signed him on Tuesday evening was what his bio said about him. He is a 27-year-old 6-foot-2, 312-pound defensive tackle who played three games for the Atlanta Falcons last season, making one tackle. Powell was a 2008 fifth-round draft choice by the Denver Broncos, but those three games with Atlanta last season are the only ones he has ever been active for.

I reached out to our friends at SB Nation's Falcons site, The Falcoholic, for a quick scouting report. Here is what lead blogger DaveTheFalconer had to say:

"He's a backup, for sure, but he's young enough to have some upside. In the limited times we saw him with the Falcons, he looked like he had pretty good strength and a nose for the ball, though his footwork and agility are question marks. He's a very entertaining dude to follow on Twitter (@PowPow97), too, for what that's worth."

Cowboys' Witten may miss rest of preseason - Yahoo! Sports
Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten could miss the remainder of the preseason with a spleen injury and internal bleeding that occurred during Monday night's game against the Oakland Raiders. whether Witten would need surgery.

Witten was examined Tuesday and had an MRI, the team's website reported Wednesday. An NFL.com report cited sources as saying there was no indication yet whether Witten would need surgery.

But it appears that the injury might be serious enough to hold the veteran out until the Sept. 5 regular-season opener against the New York Giants.
