Good morning, New York Giants fans! Here are some news and notes from Giants training camp, and around the NFL.
We will start the day with some quotes from Sunday at training camp.
Antrel Rolle was asked on about Prince Amukamara and his uneven performance in the preseason opener vs. the Jacksonville Jaguars.
"I think they came at him a little bit. They tried to test him out early, which we already told him that was going to be the case. He has to clean some things up, he’s still fairly new. He’s still new to the system, new to the game. We don’t make any excuses for him. We told him, ‘You’re going to have to be that guy there,’ and he understands that. He came back, and was smarter in the next series with an awesome play, forcing the turnover, and giving our offense a chance to score, which is always a good thing.
"There’s no time for babying, and he understands that. He’s going to be fine. I have all the confidence in the world in Prince, and I’m sure he’s going to get the job done."
D.J. Ware knows he is fighting with rookie David Wilson for playing time in the Giants' backfield.
"I feel like I’ve waited my turn and hopefully my turn is here. At the same time, you have a first round draft pick so you’ve just got to stay positive in your mind and on the field. Hopefully, I can get that done," Ware said. "I just want to be a playmaker. I just want to be somebody that can get the ball in my hands and I can do something with it. Whether that’s in the red or green, goal line, or out on the field, I just want to get out there and make plays.
"I just feel like my time is running out. "I look at it and take it every day as it’s my last and go out there and try to get the best look as possible."
Giants coach Tom Coughlin said Sunday all he wants at this point in the season is improvement.
"The whole thing is about improvement. I gave them 10 things today, probably could have given them 20. I gave them 10 things to really focus on," Coughlin said. "The pressure is to get better and we should get better. After looking at the tape [of the Jacksonville game] and understanding it and what have you… I didn’t like the 89-yard drive against the ones. I would have been a lot happier if that didn’t happen, but some of the other things that happened – you’re up 24-7, you should win."
