New York Giants News and Notes: Freaking Hot Hump Day Edition

Good morning fellow Giants fans. To every NFL coach--bring extra Gatorade to camp! Anyway, it's Hump Day, and you know what that means.....time for the Hump Day calendar--just seven weeks until the Giants and Cowboys kick off the 2012 NFL season, and only eight days until the start of training camp in Albany. I remember starting this calendar and feeling like the season was in 2013. Anyway, real football news and chatter is beginning and will be in full force very soon. Here is what is happening this morning....

In what might be the biggest no-brainer in this entire series, wide receiver Victor Cruz was the best bargain on the New York Giants' roster last year and, barring an extension this season, will be one again in 2012.

Football Outsiders compiled a top-25 list of prospects who are 26 and under and might be on the cusp of a breakout. There are two second-year New York Giants who are part of this list. Offensive tackle James Brewer is ranked eighth and running back Da'Rel Scott made honorable mention.

Miami Dolphins pass-rusher Cameron Wake is one of the NFL's most inspiring stories. He was undrafted out of Penn State, and although the New York Giants signed him as a rookie free agent, he was released before training camp. Wake took jobs as a personal trainer and pushed papers at a bank before giving football another whirl and dominating the Canadian Football League for two seasons.

Raise your hand if you knew the Giants signed this guy as a rookie free agent. I honestly had no idea.

York roots for Williams to have 'breakout' season
Williams began last season behind Michael Crabtree, Josh Morgan, Braylon Edwards and Ted Ginn on the depth chart. Williams' two turnovers in the NFC championship game proved critical in the season-ending loss to the New York Giants. The team has remained overwhelmingly supportive of Williams, and that includes CEO Jed York.

Cowboys WR Dez Bryant's mother reported assault, according to police | NJ.com
Police say Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant was arrested because his mother complained that he had assaulted her over the weekend. Bryant surrendered Monday afternoon to police in DeSoto, a suburb south of Dallas. His attorney, Royce West, says Bryant posted $1,500 bond after a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Wow. Does it get any lower than assaulting your mom?
