Kellen Winslow Jr.: Should The New York Giants Be Interested?

Should the New York Giants be interested in tight end Kellen Winslow if and when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers cut him loose? The talented Winslow, 28, is not in the plans of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers -- that much has become obvious.

Let's make one thing clear -- the Giants are not going to make a trade for Winslow. The guy has a $3.3 million salary for 2012, is signed for three more years and has bad knees. Despite the 75 catches he made in 2011 trading for a guy like this is not something the Giants so. What they do is sign a more under-the-radar tight end with something to prove -- like they did with Martellus Bennett.

Still, if and when Winslow inevitably hits the free-agent market -- where his price will likely be much lower -- is he worth at least kicking the tires on?

Matt Bowen of the National Football Post is intrigued by Winslow as a free agent, saying "a healthy, in-shape Winslow is still a tough matchup for a safety that rolls down from the middle of the field in coverage."

The Giants have Bennett and they drafted Adrien Robinson in the fourth round. Even with them around, would the 6-foot-4, 264-pound Winslow be worth the gamble?
