2012 NFL Draft: New York Giants Select David Wilson, RB, Virginia Tech

The New York Giants surprised with the final pick Thursday night in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft, selecting Virginia Tech running back David Wilson.

Wilson is a 5-foot-9, 200-pound back who says "should be an exceptional situational back with the skills necessary to create his own yardage and break long runs."

SB Nation's Mocking The Draft says: "If there is an open running lane, few players can hit the hole and come out of it as well as Wilson. He's a speed-first runner who developed more power to his game as a junior."

The Giants, of course, had a need at running back with Brandon Jacobs having signed as a free agent with the San Francisco 49ers and Ahmad Bradshaw's feet and ankles being a perennial issue.

The Giants had often been connected to Boise State running back Doug Martin, but Martin went one pick earlier to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
