The New York Giants surprised with the final pick Thursday night in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft, selecting Virginia Tech running back David Wilson.
Wilson is a 5-foot-9, 200-pound back who SI.com says "should be an exceptional situational back with the skills necessary to create his own yardage and break long runs."
SB Nation's Mocking The Draft says: "If there is an open running lane, few players can hit the hole and come out of it as well as Wilson. He's a speed-first runner who developed more power to his game as a junior."
The Giants, of course, had a need at running back with Brandon Jacobs having signed as a free agent with the San Francisco 49ers and Ahmad Bradshaw's feet and ankles being a perennial issue.
The Giants had often been connected to Boise State running back Doug Martin, but Martin went one pick earlier to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
