ESPN NFL Draft analysts Mel Kiper and Todd McShay have released mock drafts just one day prior to the real 2012 NFL Draft. Kiper has the New York Giants selecting Ole Miss offensive tackle Bobby Massie with the 32nd selection of the first round. McShay, in a seven-round mock done with Scouts Inc., has the Giants taking Stanford tight end Coby Fleener.
Here is how Kiper explains the selection:
The Giants won a Super Bowl with a weakness at left tackle, but they still need to address it. Massie could actually go much higher, perhaps as high as Detroit at No. 23, so he's a solid value here. QB Eli Manning is a really tough player, but the Giants don't want to rely on his toughness if they can help it.
The seven-round Scouts Inc. mock, in which McShay is a participant, points out that he will release his final first-round mock on Thursday morning. Here, anyway, is how the Scouts Inc. mock breaks down for the Giants.
Round 1 (32nd) -- Fleener
Round 2 (63rd) -- A.J. Jenkins, WR, Illinois
Round 3 (94th) -- Robert Turbin, RB, Utah State
Round 4 (127th) -- Matt Reynolds, OT, BYU
Round 4 (131st, compensatory) -- Charles Mitchell, S, Mississippi
Round 5 -- No selection
Round 6 (201st overall) -- Vontaze Burfict, MLB, Arizona State
Round 7 (239th overall) -- Deangelo Tyson, DE, Georgia
What do you think, Giants fans? My guess is the Burfict pick gets a reaction.
