[Note by Ed Valentine, 03/18/12 11:15 PM EDT: Sean initially reported that Amukamara had surgery on his left foot. Multiple beat reporters have confirmed that Amukamara had an injection, not surgery. I have updated the report to reflect the new information.]
After spending most of the 2011 season on the sidelines due to a fractured metatarsal in his left foot, which required surgery, Prince Amukamara has received an injection to help promote healing in the foot. The "Prince Of New York" showed up to an autograph session in New Jersey today hobbling on crutches and sporting a large walking boot cast on his left leg.
Amukamara explained that he underwent the procedure recently to help his foot heal quicker.
Amukamara was the New York Giants first-round pick of the 2011 NFL Draft. His presence was expected to add a tremendous amount of depth to the Giants secondary. The injury cost him the first nine games of the 2011 season. When he returned he struggled and eventually found his playing time limited.
With Aaron Ross expected to sign elsewhere and Terrell Thomas returning after missing 2011with a second ACL injury Amukamara is being heavily counted on for the 2012 season.
