New York Giants News And Notes: Packers-Giants Buildup Begins

Good morning New York Giants fans! Let's get started with your news and notes for today.

Let's begin the day by looking at what we have in the Big Blue View Transcripts section.

Head coach Tom Coughlin was asked during his Monday news conference if having played a close game with the Green Bay Packers a few weeks ago gave the Giants confidence heading into this weekend.

"It certainly gives us confidence in the fact that we went back and forth with them. It wasn't by any means a perfect game. They had the ball at the end of the game for example and it was a high-scoring affair," Coughlin said. "From the standpoint of having played against the world champions at home and done such a reasonable job but we all know what the challenges are going forward as well."

Defensive end Justin Tuck was asked if the Giants had wanted a rematch with the Packers after their earlier loss.

"I think we did, but more than anything we just wanted the opportunity to keep playing, regardless of who we were going to face," Tuck said. "It just happens to be the Green Bay Packers and we're looking forward to that, but we don't care who it is at this point. To be the best, you have to beat the best and we'll have that opportunity on Sunday."

Quarterback Eli Manning was asked how it feels to be one of the eight teams still playing.

"These are fun days - when you come in after a win knowing that you are one of the few teams still playing football right now. The guys should feel good about that. The coaches, everybody's in a great mood that we're continuing our season," Manning said. "It's good for the guys to feel good and relax and have big smiles, but all of a sudden now it's about getting focused and turning our attention to Green Bay, start looking at the film and look at our old game and figure out what we're going to have to do to win this game.

Now, for a look around the Inter-Google.

"That guy, he plays special teams, he plays in our dime package, he plays in our base package," defensive end Justin Tuck said, before adding with a smile: "For a white linebacker, he’s pretty versatile."

Even Tuck was baffled that the Giants, with a defense ranked near the bottom of the league, waited until Week 12 to summon Blackburn. "I have no idea why he wasn’t on the football team all this year," Tuck said, which is a question Blackburn had been asking, too.

"For whatever reason, I was overlooked," Blackburn said. "Things weren’t in the cards at the time. God blessed me with another opportunity and I’m just trying to make the most of it."
