Those of you who are upset with the New York Giants for not bringing back wide receiver Plaxico Burress can stop now. Burress admitted Wednesday that he never had any intention of returning to the Giants.
"Personally, I just think I needed a fresh start. If I wanted to go somewhere and get more money, I could've gone to a couple of more places and signed a two or three-year deal. I just wanted to put myself in a situation to go somewhere fresh," Burress said. "I think I deserved that, with everything that I went through, to just go somewhere that's refreshing."
Then why did Burress go through the hoops of meeting with the Giants before making his decision to sign with the Jets?
"I went back more to have some closure to the whole situation. It was good to see some of the people, Jerry Reese, John Mara, Steve Tisch, and be able to have an opportunity to really sit down with them face-to-face for the first time and tell them how much I appreciated them bringing me in, allowing my game to flourish and putting me in a situation where I could have success," Burress said. "Everything went well. It was a great meeting, but business is business and now I'm over here."
This is what I've been saying for a long time. Despite the public meetings and statements to the contrary, Burress returning to the Giants was never going to happen. So fans and reporters killing the Giants for 'failing' to bring him back into the fold can stop now.
Even if they truly wanted him back, they never had a chance.
