The New York Giants placed injured cornerback Terrell Thomas on Injured Reserve today, officially ending his season. Thomas, of course, tore an ACL during the first half of Monday's 41-13 preseason victory over the Chicago Bears. The Giants also waived/injured cornerback Brian Witherspoon, who also tore his ACL Monday, and wide receiver Samuel Giguere. Giguere tore a hamstring in practice last week.
In a bit of brighter news, the Giants officially announced the signing of veteran defensive tackle Jimmy Kennedy in a move that had been expected for several days.
Kennedy is an eight-year veteran who played sparingly for the Minnesota Vikings last season. He joins veterans Rocky Bernard and Gabe Watson is competing for a roster spot along with Chris Canty and youngsters Linval Joseph and Marvin Austin.
Kennedy, a Yonkers native, was drafted in the first round (12th overall) by the St. Louis Rams in 2003. The Giants are Kennedy's fifth NFL team.
