I have been saying for a couple of days that it didn't that free-agent running back Ahmad Bradshaw had much leverage in contract negotiations with the New York Giants after the Miami Dolphins acquired Reggie Bush and pulled out of the Bradshaw Sweepstakes. Well, that may have changed.
Pro Football Talk reported this morning that the NFC East-rival Washington Redskins have expressed "preliminary interest" in Bradshaw.
PFT opined that Bradshaw "doesn’t really fit the Mike Shanahan profile of little-known interchangeable backs who get their yards because they get great blocking." Still, the holdup in the contract negotiations between the Giants and Bradshaw has apparently been about the amount of guaranteed money the fifth-year starter from Marshall would receive. The benchmark, of course, is the $21 million guaranteed DeAngelo Williams recently received to stay with the Carolina Panthers.
Whether Washington's interest turns serious or not, and I have my ears to the ground on this one, it likely at least means the Giants will have to pay Bradshaw more than they wanted to.
