Rich Seubert Will Be Released By Giants

Wow! This is a sad one as the news keeps coming fast and furious, but the New York Giants are releasing guard Rich Seubert.

From the Wall Street Journal's Aditi Kinkhabwala via Twitter:

Oh no! Just confirmed NYG releasing my favorite player, Rich Seubert. It's a business decision to save salary. NYG still on hook for rehab.

Inside Football's Pat Traina tweeted "Apparently they didn't think he'd be able to pass a physical any time soon. it's a very sad day for the Giants."

Indeed this is a sad day for the Giants. It could not be entirely unexpected, though, despite how well Seubert played a season ago. If Traina is right that Seubert would be unable to pass a physical in the near future the Giants had little choice but to move on due to salary cap issues. ESPN reported that Seubert would have cost the Giants $2.25 million against the cap this season.

This, of course, opens the possibility that David Diehl will move inside to guard and Will Beatty will get the starting job at left tackle.
