Clinton Portis As A New York Giant?

Running back Clinton Portis, most recently of the Washington Redskins, says he would like to play for the New York Giants.

"To go to the Giants and get to play the Redskins twice a year after them feeling I wasn’t capable any more, I think that would be outstanding," Portis said according to a full transcript posted on RealRedskins.com. "I forgot to even mention Eli Manning and the great line of the Giants always seems to have and the model of them pounding the ball. I would love that opportunity, too."

To be fair, Portis did not offer this comment unsolicited. During an interview on SiriusXM NFL Radio he was asked directly about the Giants, and pretty much answered the question the way any player who doesn't have an employer at the moment would.

So, does this have a realistic chance of happening? At first blush, I would not think so. Yes, Ahmad Bradshaw is a free agent but you have to believe the Giants will re-sign him. Brandon Jacobs? Who knows how the Giants really feel about the big fella. Then there are D.J. Ware, Charles Scott and seventh-round pick Da'Rel Scott.

If the Giants keep Bradshaw and Jacobs, Portis has no shot with the Giants. Even if they only keep one signing a veteran player like this does not seem like the way the Giants usually operate. Seems more like a Patriots' kind of move.
