In case you were wondering, New York Giants fans, it looks like defensive coordinator Perry Fewell will not be a candidate for the vacant Tennessee Titans' head coaching job. Of course, the Giants thought they were done with this speculation when Fewell fell short of jobs with the San Francisco 49ers, Cleveland Browns, Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos.
Then the Titans went and re-opened this door by getting rid of long-time coach Jeff Fisher. Reports indicate, however, that Fewell is not scheduled to get an interview with Tennessee about the job.
Pro Football Talk is reporting that the Titans will satisfy Rooney Rule requirements by interviewing Ray Sherman for the vacancy. Sherman, who had been receivers coach with the Dallas Cowboys, was let go by new coach Jason Garrett at the end of the season.
During his tour of teams looking for head coaches immediately after the season, Fewell had expressed hesitation about interviewing in places where he felt he was just getting a token interview to enable teams to meet the Rooney Rule requirement.
To the Giants' good fortune, it appears he won't have to worry about it with the Titans.
