Will Beatty To Have Surgery For Detached Retina

What now? Left tackle Will Beatty, who has been the New York Giants best offensive lineman this season, will undergo surgery on Thursday morning to repair a detached retina in his right eye. The Giants made the announcement late this afternoon.

The procedure will be performed by Donald J. D'Amico, MD, Professor and Chairman of Ophthalmology at Weill Cornell Medical College and Ophthalmologist-in-Chief at the New York Presbyterian Hospital. A timeframe for Beatty's recovery is not known at this time.

What the Giants will do in an effort to replace Beatty is uncertain. Perhaps David Diehl, the starter at left tackle for several seasons prior to moving inside to guard this season, moves outside. Giants fans don't want to hear that, but Diehl to the outside and probably Kevin Boothe to left guard seems like the likely move.

The Giants also have veteran Stacy Andrews and rookie James Brewer as tackle options.
