The New York Giants today signed offensive lineman Jim Cordle off the practice squad and added free agent cornerback Justin Tryon. The team terminated wide receiver Brandon Stokley's contract with an injury settlement and terminated the contract of quarterback Sage Rosenfels and removed him from injured reserve.
Because they added two players and subtracted just one, the Giants will announce an additional roster move on Wednesday.
The team also announced that offensive lineman Selvish Capers has been signed to the practice squad.
Tryon, 5-foot-9 and 180 pounds, is a four-year pro. He spent his first two years with the Washington Redskins and the 2010 season - plus the first three games of the current season - with the Indianapolis Colts. Tryon was released by the Colts on Sept. 28.
Tryon has played in 44 regular-season games with eight starts and he started the only postseason game in which he played, the 2010 AFC Wild Card Game vs. the Jets. His career totals include 82 tackles (65 solo), one interception, one sack and 10 passes defensed. He has also returned 14 kickoffs for a 21.4-yard average.
Tryon entered the NFL as a fourth-round draft choice (124th overall selection) from Arizona State by the Redskins in 2008.
On Sept. 4, 2010, Tryon was traded by the Redskins to Indianapolis. Last year with the Colts, he played in 12 games with six starts and had career highs in tackles (44, 34 solo) and passes defensed (seven). Tryon had three tackles and an interception in the postseason game vs. the Jets.
Tryon had seven tackles while playing in the first three games this season.
Cordle is a center who spent the entire 2010 season on the Giants' practice squad. Starting center David Baas sat out the second half of the Giants' comeback victory in Arizona on Sunday after aggravating a burner. Cordle, 6-3 and 320 pounds, was signed to a reserve/future contract on Jan. 3 and was with the team in training camp before being waived in the final cutdown on Sept. 3. He was re-signed to the practice squad two days later.
Stokley, a 13-year veteran, signed with the Giants on Sept. 15. He caught one pass, a seven-yarder in the victory at Philadelphia on Sept. 25. Stokley suffered a quad injury last week in practice and did not travel with the team for Sunday's victory in Arizona.
Rosenfels, the Giants' backup quarterback in 2010, suffered from a strep throat and then back soreness during the preseason. He was placed on injured reserve on Sept. 3.
Capers, 6-5 and 315 pounds, was a 2010 seventh-round draft choice by the Redskins from West Virginia. He was released at the end of training camp and spent the 2010 season on Washington's practice squad. Capers was signed to a reserve/future contract after the season and was waived on Sept. 3.
