Well, today stinks. The NFL conference championships are being played, and our New York Giants have already been on vacation for what seems like an eternity. Mostly because it's been a much longer vacation than it should have been.
Anyway, here is my 'rooting guide' for today's action.
Green Bay Packers at Chicago Bears
(NFC Championship Game, 3 p.m. ET, FOX)
I have no idea how you guys are looking at this game, but I am rooting with all my heart for Green Bay. I still can't bring myself to see the Bears -- with Jay Cutler at quarterback -- as a Super Bowl team. I know they have a nice defense and all that, but I still think the 2010 Giants are a better team. It would really tick me off to see the Bears make the Super Bowl. Especially playing on the mosh pit they call a football field.
At least I understand how good of a player Aaron Rodgers is. And whether it was partially caused by Philadelphia hangover or not, the Packers earned their way to the playoffs by beating the Giants on the field. I have to give up to them for that.
New York Jets at Pittsburgh Steelers
(AFC Championship Game, 6:30 p.m. ET, CBS)
I honestly don't know how any self-respecting Giants fan can do anything today except root like crazy for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Now, I'm no Ben Roethlisberger fan and truth be told I can't stand the Steelers, but haven't we had enough of this freakin' Jets-mania that seems to sweeping New York already?
I mean, c'mon! Pep rallies and send-off parties, lighting the Times Square Ball green, dressing up the Empire State Building in Jets colors. It's unbearable, even though I understand it. A Jets trip to the Super Bowl would be good for me in the sense that it would improve traffic over at SB Nation New York, but I don't think that's enough of a reason for me to root for the Jets. My head will explode if all of this love of everything green continues. So, please, root for Big Ben today.
