New York Giants Notes: Whatcha Talkin' About, Phil?

Love former New York Giants quarterback Phil Simms, but he said something recently about the Giants that I'm not sure I'm thrilled about.

"Last season, they were still in that window to win two or three Super Bowls," Simms said. "They're now a team in transition, and we'll see how it goes."

The "team in transition" phrase can loosely be translated to "team I really don't expect to win this season."

Who knows, in the end Simms might be right. The Giants are "changing." The defense has a new coordinator, and will have some new pieces on the field (and, hopefully, a few old ones who weren't there last year. The offense might feature a new look to the line.

But, does that make the Giants a "team in transition?" Teams change some every season.

The Giants still have Tom Coughlin. They appear to have an extremely talented roster. I believe the expectation is that the Giants -- if they are healthy -- have a shot at returning to that status of being one of the better teams in the league. If they make that kind of transition this season we would all like that.

And Simms could still say he was right.
