Giants By The Numbers: 9 is for ...

Matt Bahr.

As you will see in just a bit, I could have gone another direction here. I chose the 'feel good' path, however. Bahr was a Giant from 1990-92, and kicked the game winning field goal in the Giants' 20-19 victory over Buffalo (the Scott Norwood wide-right game) in Super Bowl XXV.

Bahr also kicked five field goals in the NFC Championship Game a week earlier as the Giants defeated the 49ers, 15-13, to reach the Super Bowl.

You guys know the current occupant of the No. 9 is placekicker Lawrence Tynes. I think Tynes draws the ire of fans partially because miscues by anyone wearing that number conjure up BAD memories for us.

That's because Joe Pisarcik wore that number, and you can't call yourself a Giants fan if you don't know what means. Pisarcik, of course, was the quarterback for 'The Fumble' on Nov. 19, 1978 -- probably the most embarrassing moment in franchise history.

Personally, I want to remember the number for happier reasons. Thus, Bahr is the choice.
