BBV Community Mock Draft: With 32nd pick, Saints select ...

Jared Odrick, DT, Penn State.

Making the final pick of Round 1 in our Mock Draft is 'GiantsReignSupreme.' He is selecting, of course, for the Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints.

Here we are at the 32nd pick. The Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints have a very solid team all around, but like every other team, there's always room for improvement.

I feel that the Saints are in a position where they can draft the best player that's available and also fill a need. The Saints offense is one of the most productive in the league, and they have a steady balance between the run and pass, so I believe that makes defense a priority in the early rounds. The release of Scott Shanle and Fujita going to the Browns leaves a void at linebacker, so Sean Lee from PSU would make a lot of sense here.

The team has also made no effort to resign Darren Sharper, but there's not a safety on the board that is worthy of a first-round selection in my eyes. Odrick can play multiple positions on the D-line and plays a position in need of replacement with the departure of Charles Grant and most likely Anthony Hargrove. Although he better suits the 5 technique in a 3-4 defense, his ability to play DE and DT could be very valuable to a 4-3 team. Defensive mastermind Gregg Williams will no doubt find a way to utilize him to his full potential. Not to mention this guy got invited to the draft, so we can't leave him hanging until the 2nd round!

My take: Pretty good value for the Saints. A guy who could, arguably, be in the discussion for the Giants way up at 15 falls to the Saints at 32. The rich get richer! Odrick may not have the high ceiling of some of the defensive linemen who have already come off the board, but he should be a very good NFL player. By the way, I still want to know who Odrick paid off to get himself an invitation to the draft.
