RV: Giants may stay in Albany

Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News has a report this morning that the Giants appear likely to continue holding their summer training camp at the University at Albany.

Giants officials met with officials from the University at Albany last week and are "working toward a return" to Albany for their annual summer training camp, according to a Giants spokesman. The negotiations are ongoing, but it is starting to appear likely the team will return there for a 15th consecutive year.

"We met with university staff last week (and) we had a thorough, productive meeting," Giants VP of communications, Pat Hanlon said. "As has always been the case, the university is working with us to address our concerns. So we are working toward a return, but we’re not there yet."

My take: If this happens, it would be great news for me -- and for all of Big Blue View Nation. That's because, as many of you probably remember, I live 20 minutes from the UAlbany campus and would then be able to attend and report on camp every day. That was a great experience last summer, and I would love to do it again.

As for the team perspective, the Giants do have a brand new practice facility. Yet, there is seemingly something beneficial to a team about getting out of their normal environment and being able to concentrate solely on the task at hand.
