THE EXHIBITION SEASON starts tonight for our New York Giants. First and foremost, say a quick prayer (or, a long prayer if you wish) that no key players get hurt. No Osi Umenyiora/Jason Sehorn season-enders this exhibition season ... please!
The game will provide a first look at the rookies many are so excited about. It will be the first chance to see if someone like Ramses Barden can begin to translate an excellent training camp performance into game conditions.
It could be the beginning of the last chance for a veteran like David Tyree, whose roster spot is in jeopardy.
Other players to watch
Offense: Keep your eyes on receivers Ramses Barden, Derek Hagan and Travis Beckum. Running back Allen Patrick has an opportunity with Andre Brown out for the year.. Watch all the backup linemen -- see if you can find anyone who can actually play.
Defense: Stoney Woodson has been coming on. Also watch undrafted safeties Sha'reef Rashad and Vince Anderson. Linebacker Kenny Ingram and defensive linemen Maurice Evans and Tommie Hill will probably get long looks. Cornerback Bruce Johnson is intriguing.
Use this as your Open Thread. Enjoy your first football action of 2009. Before you get all worked up, though, remember that this game doesn't count. So, just enjoy it.
