A Thursday journey through the Giants wayback machine.....

'Intellectual Derriere' is not only one of our new posters here at BBV but is also one of my closest friends. He was cleaning out his work e-mail, and stumbled across this exchange between he and I. We got a good laugh out of it, and hope you will, too. Remember folks, Ed has me listed down below as an "expert". Take it away Mr. Derriere (Chuck):

So I'm cleaning out old e-mail and stumble upon this gem of an e-mail chain. It started out innocent enough with the Giants signing Vonta Leach (FB - Houston) to a 2mil offer sheet. What followed was some of Jim's "Expert" opinions. I've reversed the e-mail chain for read-ability....

Bye-bye secret weapon Jim Finn

Great. So a player that was cut from two teams and was only worth $850k to his previous team; the Giants give over 2 Mil a year to? Brilliant!

Here is my thinking on this: (Pay attention here folks, here comes the "experts" opinion):

The Giants are not spending any money on players or coaches at this point because in their mind, barring a miracle, Tom Coughlin is gone at the end of the year, and they aren't going to waste time or money on players the new regime may not want. They are basically telling TC "This is it, work with what you have, we're done investing in your program."

I hope most Giants fans are smart enough to realize the Giants are giving up on this year. They locked Eli up for a few more years, in my opinion because they are dead set on getting him a coach he can prosper with for next year. I honestly think the job will be there for Charlie Weis if he wants it, and I expect ND to take a step back this year, and I think he will be ready for the change.

I can't help but think all this sitting back and doing almost nothing is part of a plan.

They have potentially spent over 2mil a year on a journeyman (at best) fullback. I would rather they did nothing. Now they have that 2mil albatross hanging around their neck for the next four years.

Hell, he could be the next Carthon. Who knows. I just can't get excited about the upcoming season.

Final Thought from Intellectual D:

I can't begin to express how happy I am that; A - Houston matched the offer sheet and the Giants didn't end up with VL, B - How wrong we both where about the Giants last year.

P.S. Jim, please don't post my e-mail chain after the Buffalo game where I said I would rather have Ryan Leaf than Elisha Manning at QB.
