Kiwi -- should he stay or should he go?

Mathias Kiwanuka has struggled to make the transition from defensive end to outside linebacker.
The New York Giants placed backup defensive end Adrian Awasom on injured reserve Tuesday, the seventh Giant to go on the list this season.

If you're in the 'move Mathias Kiwanuka back to defensive end' camp this is your chance to holler from the roof top.

I go back and forth on this. Today, he is a better end than linebacker. If the Giants were a big-time contender, I'd say end the experiment. Yet, I still think that, given time, Kiwi can be a force at linebacker.

Even though the pass rush has been anemic, I don't think Coach Tom Coughlin and defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo are ready to pull the plug on this yet.

At end, Kiwanuka would still have to split time with Osi Umenyiora, Michael Strahan and Justin Tuck -- who has been the Giants best lineman so far.

Also, if you move him what have you got for linebackers? Gerris Wilkinson is finally practicing, but nobody knows if he is healthy or if he is any good. Reggie Torbor? Zak DeOssie? Chase Blackburn? Not appealing options right now.

My gut feeling is the Giants take the long view, leave Kiwanuka alone, and see what happens. Using him more as a blitzer instead of a cover guy would be helpful.

• Rookie wide receiver Steve Smith will miss at least two games with a fractured shoulder blade. I'd love to see Anthony Mix get some opportunities while Smith recuperates.
