The Giants may have finally found the big, bruising fullback they have been seeking since the off-season. On Tuesday they were awarded Madison Hedgecock on waivers from St. Louis and released Robert Douglas.
Hedgecock is 6-foot-3, 266 pounds. It sound like he will get playing time right away.
Giants beat writer Ernie Palladino of the Journal News thinks the move could help the Giants. Here is some of what Palladino had to say.
It's not a bad pickup, actually. Hedgecock, strictly a blocker who played in 33 games with 16 starts, nine last year, with the Rams, might come in handy against the strong middle defense of the Packers this week. And now, Derrick Ward will have a legitimate lead blocker, with Reuben Droughns able to concentrate once again on his tailback responsibilities.
Hedgecock is a pretty good special teams player, too, having made 19 tackles there in 2005, when he was the Rams' seventh-round draft pick.
