Ranking the top QBs of all time

Which quarterbacks are the greatest of all time? You could spend all kinds of time arguing about that question.

Well, a blogger named Davis21wylie over at Armchair GM has tried to quantify it, putting together a list of the top 100 quarterbacks since 1950.

No. 1 on the list? Johnny Unitas, with Joe Montana at No. 2. Amazingly, former Giants and Minnesota Viking Fran Tarkenton finished No. 3 on this list. Among other quarterbacks with Giants connections, Phil Simms was 29, Norm Snead 51, Kurt Warner 63 and Jeff Hostetler 93.

I have no idea what the writer's credentials are, but the highly respected Football Outsiders thought the method used to compile the ratings was credible enough to give the post some good play. That's enough for me.

Personally, I don't think Tarkenton has ever gotten enough credit for how good he was. I'm not sure I can rank him above Dan Marino and John Elway, as this list does, but he deserves to be mentioned more often when discussing the best quarterbacks of the modern era.

Anyway, check out the list then come back here and share your thoughts.
