Big Blue View launched in February, just a little more than four months ago. Considering that BBV got its start in the dead of the off-season, I'm thrilled with the growth of our little community to this point.
I can tell from the comments that many of you are making Big Blue View a daily stop on your tour around the great Inter-Google, and I thank you for that.
If you're new to Big Blue View, and even if you're not, let me take a shot at explaining what I am trying to do here.
I'm not here to break news. That's the job of the beat guys who cover the team every day and have access to the players, coaches and management.
I'm here to offer my opinion on the news they provide, to share my thoughts just about anything to do with the Giants, and to give you folks a place to share your thoughts and feelings about Big Blue.
This site won't work unless you folks contribute to it. So, if you haven't done it already, create an account so you can log in and comment on any post you see. It won't cost you any money, and we won't start sending you bucket loads of Spam.
I ask only that you have something better than "F--- the Redskins" to say when you comment -- even though I might agree with the sentiment. We're trying to show at least a little class here at BBV (though not too much), and trying to have some civil discussions amongst ourselves and our rivals.
I also encourage you to make use the 'Diaries' section of the site. I have a full-time job, a wife and three kids to pay attention to, and a golf game to work on. So, if you want to discuss something I haven't gotten to, use the Diaries and start a conversation of your own.
I'm hopeful our little community will become a large, loud one once the season begins with training camp next month in Albany.
I'd also like to get to know a little more about some of you folks who frequent what I like to call BigBlueView Nation.
I'll tell you that I've been a Giants fan since I was a little kid. I used to dress up in one of those little kids football uniforms (a Fran Tarkenton No. 10), and I used to listen to my dad complain about the Giants crappy defensive line and linebacker play.
I've been Sports Editor of two small daily newspapers, and spent about 20 years working as a reporter or editor.
I've been out of the business for about 8 years now, though I've freelanced to keep my hand in writing.
Doing this and my personal blog, Valentine's Views On Sports, is the most rewarding thing I've done in a long time.
Enough about me. What about you guys? I'd love to hear a little more about how some of you folks came to be diehard Giants fans.
How about it 'SBakerTheTouchdownMaker,' 'Potroast,' 'George Cronin' and some of you other folks?
Drop a comment and tell us a litle about yourselves. Maybe we'll get to know each other a little better, and make BigBlueView a better place.
