Beginning with Mel Kiper on draft day it has become fashionable to criticize Giants General Manager Jerry Reese for not addressing the team's need at left tackle.
The latest to jump on this bandwagon is Football Outsiders, in its most recent Four Down on the NFC East.
To me, this criticism ignores the fact that the tackle who was available when the Giants selected at No. 20 -- Joe Staley -- is a guy most experts think won't be ready to start this year.
It also ignores the fact that the guy the Giants did select, cornerback Aaron Ross, could wind up starting AND returning punts, another area where the team needs help.
Let's also remember that Luke Petitgout was not an All-Pro left tackle. He was a good player, but prone to penalties and hardly a great pass blocker. It's not like the Giants are trying to replace Jonathan Ogden.
