Notes from a busy day

The Giants beat reporters are given the opportunity to speak with players in the locker room once a week during the offseason. Today was the day, and lots of interesting tidbits came out of it.

From Ernie Palladino of the Journal-News comes the fact new Giants linebacker Kawika Mitchell has yet to meet head coach Tom Coughlin or defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo.

"I'll meet all these people eventually," said Mitchell. "It doesn't bother me."

Mitchell also told Palladino he didn't mind signing a one-year deal.

"It's something I can build on and have success with. If I do a great job, then the Giants will have an option (to re--sign him) or I could be on the market again."

From Newsday's Arthur Staple comes an Eli Manning message for receivers Plaxico Burress and Jeremy Shockey, who don't usually attend the offseason program.

"I hope we can get them here a few times before we start (minicamp)," Manning said. "This is where I have to be, this is where all the other players are, this is where I work out, train, see my film. This is where the offseason program is."

From Ralph Vacchiano of the Daily News comes a quick note that defensive end Osi Umenyiora is now a Nigerian chief. Umenyiora would not provide details on how that happened.

From Mike Garafolo of the Star-Ledger comes the news that backup offensive lineman Grey Reugamer signed a two-year deal to stay with the team.
