Strahan champions Coughlin's cause

New, comments

Bet you never saw this coming. Michael Strahan is now openly campaigning for Tom Coughlin to be retained as New York Giants coach.

Look at what he told Newsday's Bob Glauber Sunday.

"He's done a great job," defensive end Michael Strahan said yesterday after a 16-13 win over the Eagles. "Tom has let us know that he's in this as deep as we are. When you have a coach like that, you're willing to play your -- off for the guy."

Strahan, 36, remains on the fence about whether to play next year, but he told me after the game that having Coughlin back will be a major factor in whether he decides to return.

Wow! A couple of years ago with Strahan and others rebelling against Coughlin's picky rules I never thought I would read that.

But a 9-4 record and a virtual lock on a third straight playoff appearance can do that.

By the way, I happen to agree. Coughlin deserves to stay, regardless of what happens the rest of the way.
