Kiper not fond of Giants' draft

Personally, I don't care what Mel Kiper has to say about the Giants' draft. But, for those of you who put stock in Kiper's opinion, here is what he said about the Giants.

I understand taking safety Kenny Phillips with the last pick in the first round. He had a great sophomore season in 2006. Terrell Thomas could be a No. 2 cornerback, but I thought that pick was just OK. Wide receiver Mario Manningham is worth a role of the dice in the third round because he has talent, but his stock dropped in the months leading up to the draft, with some teams viewing him as a late-round pick. Jonathan Goff was a good find in the fifth round, and the same can be said about Andre' Woodson in Round 6. Defensive end Robert Henderson is just a marginal prospect.

Grade: C+

Like I said, I could care less.

I used this link before, but I have to do it again. When it comes to Kiper, this is more like it.

I'll worry about his opinion
when he learns how to spell "roll".  It's not that tough of a word to figure out.

Kiper is an idiot.
I honestly don't know why I read this guys mock draft.

He had Manningham going in the mid- 2nd round a week ago.

No matter what the mock drafts and post-draft gradings mean nothing until; this fall and beyond when these guys show what they can do on the field.    I get caught up in it myself, because I am starved for some reason to care about what the giants are doing.

I just want to get these guys in training camp and see if they can help take this team to the next level.  The only grade that matters is what these kids do over the next 1-3 years, so we can keep drafting good people and players not continually looking for a deep threat, a backup QB or whatever .

forgive the stupid question
I know the Giants traded somewhere, but I can't figure out the details.

I am guessing they gave up one of their 6th rounds and their 4th and got a higher 4th?  is that correct?  How much higher did they move?  Was it worth it?

Trade
The Giants relinquished the first of their three sixth-round to Pittsburgh selections to move up seven spots in the fourth round to take Kehl.

kiper gives grades out
merely to protect his rep.  if a team disagrees with where he had people placed, hes gives them a C.  If they pick players where he had them slotted, they get a B.  but no one gets an A or a D (or F), because they it would be too easy to call kiper out on his nonsense when he is inevitably wrong.

this is a good take on kipe jr's "grading system"

Kiper
Didn't he give Reese's 2007 draft a C- ?

2007 Gints Grade
He gave the Giants a C- last year.  He hated the Aaron Ross pick.

Kiper
Doesn't know what he's talking about, at least in regards to what teams need. I have a hard time taking him seriously ever since his first post Super Bowl (which we won by the way, if you hadn't heard yet) draft needs article, he talked about how one of the Giants biggest needs was at running back. It read as if he just copied and pasted his 2007 draft needs article on the Giants.

By the way, I just watched some videos over at NFL.com, and those guys were much more impressed with the Giants draft than the guys at ESPN. Marshall Faulk really likes Woodson, they all agree Manningham has a ton of potential, and they talked about how it's been a very successful offseason for the Giants so far.
