New Blog: Sounder At Heart for Seattle Sounders Fans!

Good news, bad news day

It's a good news, bad news morning here at Big Blue View.

Good news: Osi Umenyiora says he won't hold out. Hooray! That takes care of one potential distraction the defending Super Bowl champions (God, I still love saying that!) didn't need.

Bad News: Big Blue View's migration to the SBN 2.0 platform will be delayed until next week due to some technical issues. So, you're stuck with trusty old 1.0 for the draft.

Speaking of the draft, I am still uncertain about live blogging the blessed event. I plan to, but we'll see if the family has other ideas. Check in and see.

Glauber's Mock: Newsday's Bob Glauber posted his mock draft today. The Giants took ... Jerod Mayo.

Gerris' Big Chance: The Giants plan to give Gerris Wilkinson every chance to prove he can be an impact player.

I'm betting
Wilk will make it and that will put the kibosh on all thought about bringing Kiwi back to DE.

Osi's doing the right thing.  With the way the dollar is being destroyed by the Fed, we all know that the government figures on inflation are BS, but still 99% of Americans would wax rhapsodic over getting the $ Osi gets.  Teams are going nutso over the big bucks they're shelling out, but simple economics may soon force guys who've signed long term contracts to honor them.  The way things used to work, players were no more than chattels of their teams.  That was unfair, but what's happening now is getting out of hand.

I must be missing something
How does Wilk getting a starting spot at outside linebacker make it less likely that the giants move Kiwi from linebacker back to DE?  would seem the opposite.

Isn't Kiwi playing strong side?

You're right, EFS.
I could probably come up with some tortured logic to justify the statement, but I'll just plead a Senior Citizen Moment (motivated probably by my instinct that moving Kiwi back to DE isn't a good idea, or maybe that moving him out of LB is a bad idea.)  The Giants have had good success moving guys from other positions to LB(eg, Huff and Van Pelt), and I want to see how Kiwi works out with more expereience there.  They use him as a crasher on passing downs anyway.

Wilkinson deserves a shot.
During the week 16 Pats game he ran down the field stride for stride in coverage with Randy Moss on a deep ball. If this speed could translate to occasionally rushing the passer he could be a real weapon. What the heck ,I'd love to see him as a starter during the entire preseason at least. Thats not to say that if Phillips is gone they should pass over Connor or Mayo but I'm really curious to see what the kid can do.

I usually blame lack of coffee
If I am posting in the morning.

BTW - I agree with you regarding Kiwi -  I think he was really starting to get it last year when he got hurt, I hope he is able to come back strong

Also, I think having him in as a pass rusher on passing downs is the right idea -  I liked the four ends alignment

If I was forty years younger, I would blame
lack of coffee as well.  The draft will give us a clue about what the Giants plan to do.  If they take a DE early I think it will signal they'll keep Kiwi at LB no matter what Strahan does.  They might keep him there anyway.
