The Rodney Dangerfield of Super Bowl champs

In a diary entry Tuesday, 'SBaker' points out that Yahoo! Sports did not show your defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants much respect in its first set of 2008 pre-season rankings.

Yahoo's Charles Robinson (who is he, anyway?) has the Giants ranked seventh -- with Indianapolis, New England, Dallas, San Diego, Jacksonsville and Cleveland (you freakin' have to be kidding me) ranked above New York.

Umm, Mr. Robinson, can I please get some of whatever you have been smoking? Are you serious, with Dallas, San Diego, Jacksonville and Cleveland (Cleveland, for chrissakes!) ahead of the Super Bowl champs?

Here is what this yahoo said about the Giants.

Giants fans seem to think last season's Super Bowl win translates into automatic success in 2008. But the division is still brutal, and some players tend to slack off the year after getting a ring. Don't be surprised if turmoil returns again with a slow start.

Ahh, Mr. Robinson, what Giants fans have you been talking to? And Turmoil Tiki is not coming back, so forget that.

We get the fact that success one season doesn't mean automatic success the next. If you really knew anything about Giants' fans in the first place, you would know we are largely a skeptical lot -- often expecting the worst.

That attitude, of course, makes unexpected success like last season's even sweeter.

We get the fact that we should not EXPECT another Super Bowl championship. Hell, we didn't expect this one.

But, cmon! Cleveland? What have the Browns done to deserve being ranked ahead of the Giants? Jacksonville? The Jags are good, but what have they done to show they can win when it counts? San Diego? Dallas? Those two teams have the superstars, but the Giants have the ring.

Giants' fans, I think we had better get used to this kind of put down.

Nobody beleived the Giants were capable of the kind of run they went on during last season's playoffs. Defending Super Bowl champs or not, you are still going to hear expert after expert tell you why they think the Giants are still not a truly upper echelon team.

You might as well resign yourself to it. The Giants are the Rodney Dangerfield of Super Bowl champs. They still get no respect.

When I was born
The Dr took one look at my face, turned me over and said "Look! Twins!"

I could tell my parents hated me, when I was a kid, my bath toys were a toaster and a radio!

When I was born, the Dr slapped my mother!

Sorry, I couldn't resist, Rodney is one of my all time favorites. Just watched Back to School over the weekend for the 100th time, gonna watch Easy Money tonight

That's okay.  Gives the players something to prove.
Loved the Seubert signing.  Great persoal story: free agent, starter, wicked injury, comeback to reserve then starter again, and...he can play three different positions.  He's the kind of player a team needs to win championships.

We haven't gotten respect anywhere really. It seems that two weeks after the Super Bowl was over, everything 'mediawise' about the Giants just shut down. Did anyone else notice that or am I losing it? Sure, every once in a while they'd talk about the Tyree catch, but other than that, MUM.

If the champ had been the Patriots we'd still be stumbling through the quagmire that they'd be putting on the air to this day.

It doesn't matter to me really. I have heard of the Cowboy's rankings being better than ours. I've heard of the Brown's rankings being better than ours. So what? What do the Cowboys have to show for the past 12 or so seasons? NOTHING. What do the Browns have to show? NOTHING. It just goes to show you just how informed (or uninformed) these talking heads are.

Predictions are just that. They are guesses as to what might happen in the upcoming season. There are no guarantees, except this: We ARE the CURRENT SUPER BOWL CHAMPS. Pack that in your pipe and smoke the pooh out of it!

We didn't even have a chance for the "perfect season", but we did have the perfect ending.

That Guy's a nimrod
He mainly writes about fantasy sports.  Now, I love fantasy sports, but when you're profession is to write about make-believe teams and league, you lost a bit of credibility.

I take nothing he says about actual sports seriously.  He couldn't hold your jockstrap, ETVal.

Jockstrap
I appreciate the compliment. I would like the guy's paycheck, though!

I asked my old man if I could go ice-skating on the lake.  He told me, "Wait til it gets warmer."

I go into a bar.
I tell the bartender, "Surprise me."

So he takes out a naked picture of my wife.

When I was a kid, I stuck my face out the car window.  I got arrested for mooning.

Had enough?

Speaking of no respect,
I was at a restaurant the other night and a guy from Maine was there wearing a Patriots sweatshirt so, kiddingly, I started talking a little trash to him about the Super Bowl. I could not believe his response. He told me that the refs were directly responsible for the Giants win because on the Tyree helmet catch play the refs should have ruled that Eli was sacked. Apparently there is something funky in the water in New England because no knee ever touched the ground on that play. Yikes.

Delusional
I think it's a New England/Boston fan thing. Despite all the recent success of their teams, the world is always against them, nothing ever goes right and they are forever getting screwed. Or so they seem to think.

Yahoo Sports?
Who really takes anything seriously from something named Yahoo. I'm sure the same guy who rights sports follows boy bands around and writes about how bad ass they are. "My psychiatrist told me I was crazy and I said I want a second opinion. He said okay, you're ugly too."

I love it
The Giants are at their best when everyone thinks they suck.

Come on, I want to see someone talk about how the Redskins will finish ahead of the Giants this year.
