King: Shockey to Saints not dead

Maybe he is just trying to stir up off-season intrigue, but SI.com's Peter King believes the Jeremy Shockey to the New Orleans Saints talks aren't dead.

From King's Monday Morning Quarterback column today.

I think, Giant beat writers, you might sniff around this one: New Orleans is not through trying to acquire Jeremy Shockey.

I'm not making too much of this rumor. It seems that the Saints would like Shockey, and they probably will continue asking right up through Draft Day.

I doubt, though, that General Manager Jerry Reese intends to let Shockey go. Previous reports indicated that the Giants wanted at least a No. 1 pick, or a No. 2 and a starting type player for Shockey.

I see no reason why that would have changed. I also see no reason why New Orleans would give up that much for a guy coming off a broken leg.

I really don't care what King says. The Saints can sniff around all they want, but I still believe Shockey will be a Giant next season.

Your thoughts?

It looks like Sean Payton's really panting
to get shock, so Reese will squeeze until he gets want he wants.  If he can't, no deal.  What Reese says he wants seems to be a bit much for a guy with tread worn off the tires and coming back from an injury that isn't always easy to recuperate from (eg., Sehorn).  So, as you say, probably no deal.

Maybe
Payton likes him so much from his days with the Giants that he'll reach for him, but I doubt it too.

I want Shockey
To be a Giant. But I also want his ass at the Meadowlands working out with his Super Bowl MVP QB, end of story.

Anybody heard where Jeremy's hiding
these days. I love the guys spunk but, the emergence of Boss as a solid reciever with nothing but upside has to have put a few thoughts in his head. If it were me and the cast were off I'd lay off the cold ones and be up Elis' butt begging for some attention. Nothing less than a SUPERBOWL VICTORY that he did not participate in combined with  the emergence of an 8' tall TE with hands of glue could provide this sort of motivation.( I know , I know, Boss has about 20 mins career playing time. The off season rose colored glasses are on) It's a win/win either way. He comes back hungry ......GREAT     Colston and a second round pick..........DITTO

whoa whoa whoa whoa
Colston AND a 2nd round pick? Like the pilgrim in the Guinness commercial says: "you've got some brass ones son."

Colston is already a top 10, probably top 5 WR. He's  6'4 only an inch shorter than Shockey, but he's younger and faster. Shockey's best 2 seasons were:

  1. 74 Rec, 894 Yds, 2 TD
  2. 65 Rec, 891 Yds, 7 TD
Colston's only 2 seasons have been:
  1. 70 Rec, 1038 Yds, 8 TD
  2. 98 Rec, 1202 Yds, 11 TD
There's no way the Saints would even make that trade straight up, let alone throw in a 2nd round pick. Maybe if the Giants included a 2nd round pick with Shockey, they could get Colston, but even that I'm not so sure of. He's a STUD.

colston is out of the question
but it's nice to dream, especially about a hofstra kid coming back.

the giants aren't going to get a star player and a 2nd rounder in return for shockey.  i would take a 2nd rounder and a starter (preferably at a need position) in a heartbeat though.

OK you're right
but stranger things have happened.Eg:, Hershal Walker to the vikings for half the Dallas 90's  super bowl teams. Ricky Williams for an entire draft year..........A man can dream, throw out some bait and  if no one bites we still have Shockey. It's all good(at least in March)

hello??
It's Peter King we are dealing with. He has to write two columns a week. That rumor writes well. Gets people to talk about it. The Saints would never give up a first rounder for a injury prone player with A.D.D. Having said that, Shockey can be an asset. I believe JRS said it best: get your ass with the program. This is Eli's team now.

In fairness, King does have his ear to the ground, even Garafolo said in his blog after he read that in King's article he went sniffing around, so obviously King has the street cred (like my attempt to sound like a 20 year old?....yeah, goes real well with the Hall and Oates on my MP3 player...LOL) with his peers.

I'm a big fan of Peter King's, even more so after he was one of the only members of the media to talk at length about George Martin's walk across the country for 9-11 survivors (he did 18 miles with George), and his trip overseas to see the troops. The "coffee-nerdness" is lost on me, but whatever, I look forward to his columns every Monday.

King
I kind of agree on King. He does have insider info and I enjoy his columns for the most part, but a few things about him drive me nuts. He goes the way the wind blows, if someone is hot then he suddenly loves him. If they get cold, then he's off the bandwagon in a NY minute (especially when it comes to Eli). Also, his lists are always absolutely ridiculous.
