Which Giants should be in Hawaii?

I don't know if I can say it's embarrassing for the NFL, but it sure is entertaining as hell that only one player from the Super Bowl champion Giants -- God, I love writing that -- will play in this weekend's Pro Bowl.

By the way, it looks like that player could be Michael Strahan. Apparently, Osi Umenyiora is sick and may be sent home. Strahan is the first alternate.

Anyway, if voters could get a do-over today, which Giants would be in Hawaii?

ESPN's Mike McAllister comes up with this list:

Chris Snee, Eli Manning, Plaxico Burress, Madison Hedgecock and Justin Tuck. Add Strahan and Umenyiora to that list and I would think it would be pretty much on target.

Who would you guys add or subtract from that list? The Pro Bowl roster can be found here.

Forgive me for one subtraction.
I love the guy, and I've lived and died by him since he was drafted, but Eli probably doesn't deserve to go to the Pro Bowl, at least based on his whole body of work this season.  Still, unquestionably the best QB this postseason, hands-down.

How Plax was left out is still a mystery to me.

No mystery.
Dallas fans stuffed the ballot boxes.  No team from the NFC South placed even one player.

The League has to re-think the process for next year.  At the very least, they should adopt MLB's practices of requiring at least one player from each team and letting the coaches pick the subs.  This is ridiculous.

that's not right django
what would dallas fans have if you took away their pro-bowl ballots?

they haven't wont a playoff game in over a decade.  their head coach hasn't won a playoff game in his career.  their star player Terrell Owens has never won a Championship (the man cried for God's sake).

in the spirit of giving, let the cowboys fans have their pro bowl.  it's the only chance they'll ever have to see their players suit up in the month of February.

have a heart django.  after all, it is almost Valentine's Day.

LMAO!!!
I think I have some of the best readers in the world. That's a great post.

I see your point.
Face it, of all of the so-called all-star games in all of the major sports, the Pro Bowl is the one that almost no one watches.  It comes at the end of the season after the playoffs (for understandable reasons) at a time when fans' attentions are turning elsewhere.  It's really nothing more than a popularity contest with a free trip to Hawaii for the winners.

So, yes, let the Cowboy fans have their Pro Bowl.  At least we know then that there will be one media market where the game's ratings won't be running behind the Texas Hold Em tournament or whatever else is on Sunday afternoon.

p.s. - ETVal, great job this season. I'm looking forward to your Yankees blog.  Time to give Eli a rest and start thinking about Joba.

Thanks
I'll be in both places, so if you want to talk draft or just check in here please do.

Will do.
The draft and free agency as well.  The season never really ends anymore, does it?

by django48 on Feb 8, 2008 4:05 PM EST to parent up   0 recs

No, it doesn't
I am already thinking about what I need to do to have adequate coverage of all that stuff. There's always something going on.

Gibril Wilson
I thought Gibril came on very strong towards the end of the season and wound up having better stats than Roy "I couldn't cover a man with no legs" Williams.

I'd say....
Snee, and while Plax deserves it, damn, there are A LOT of very good receivers in the league. It's really premium a position. Look for both those guys to get recognition next year. Eli is my fav Giant but to say Pro Bowl is a stretch based on his season. But that's okay, he was Pro Bowl when it counted: the playoffs.

The Pro Bowl....
has lost it's glitter.  Besides, no one wants to get injured.

Maybe they should change the Pro Bowl rules to flag and wear shorts and t-shirts.

Seriously though, maybe a skills contest would be safer for the players and more fun to watch.  At least then nearly all the playes chosen show up.

Another idea...
Why not just a special edition of Madden '08 with just the Pro Bowl players?  Then you could have your (simulated) game with no worry about injuries.  You could still give the players their gift Hawaiian vacation.
