Super Bowl link dump, Part 2

Giants' General Manager Jerry Reese is already talking about winning another title.

"That's what you want to do," Reese said. "We have a really young team. We just don't want to go away. New England set the bar really high. The league is not built for one team to stay on the top long."

Geez, Jerry, we love the sentiment. But, let's enjoy this one for a while.

Letting it sink in
I still can't believe it.

The "Hail Tyree" catch.

Snatching victory from the jaws of defeat

Laying a vicious beat-down on Tom Brady... only to have take everything we gave him and get back up for what appeared to be the game winning drive.

Plaxico Burress playing on a torn ankle tendon.

The Giants played the game the way everyone wanted them to-- attacking on defense. They played on the Patriots side of the line of scrimmage.

On offense the Giants were balanced and got production from a number of players. But I think they went away from the run at the wrong times.

Speaking of forgetting about the run at the wrong time, how about the Patriots not recognizing that Lawrence Maroney was their most dangerous weapon. The Giants were pass rushing with a fury. Why didn't they hand off more often?

I know the hyenas are closing in on the carcass of the Patriots Perfect Season. I have heard the chatter "over hyped", "not as good as everyone said"... Remember, on their way to 16-0 they beat the Redskins, Steelers, Colts, Giants, Cowboys and Chargers. All of them made the playoffs. This was no illusion. The Patriots were that good. And they had the Superbowl won.

But they left too much time on the clock, and they didn't know that the Giants had a minor miracle in them.

This one was for real and it was forever. Do not taunt or mock the Patriots or their fans. Honoring them honors the victory the Giants won from them.

My dying words will be "Go Giants!"

Fox coverage
All in all, they did a pretty good job.  Aikman has kind of a droning voice, but I think he does a reasonablly good job and is capable of providing the inside information on the game expected from a color man .  Joe Buck calls the game in such a way as to not call much attention to himself, a trait others should emulate.

As much as Bradshaw, Long and Johnson yuk it up, I still like them.  Actually I like CBS's crew as well, with Marino and the boys.

Can't say I think much of NBC.  Olberman sucks, doesn't know jack about football, and just isn't funny or credible.  Colinsworth and Costas are the only bright spots on their show.  At this point, NBC is probably wondering why they hired Tiki.

Coverage
Fox's coverage would be more tolerable if it was just about sports and not about the relentless self-promotion of the network's other shows.  Seacrest doing the pregame, a Prison Break spot that had the characters from the show emerging from a tunnel onto the field in the Super Bowl, a Terminator blowing up the Fox football robot after one of the COUNTLESS Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles commercials.

I still think Buck should stick to baseball, and I still think Aikman isn't as good a broadcaster as the guy who used to share a backfield with him, but I suppose other than those general criticisms they weren't any worse on Sunday than they normally are.  And Aikman must've been PISSED that the Giants won, so that's an added bonus.

Personally, I kind of like the fact that Fox's studio crew seem to actually enjoy working together.  Sure, they ham it up a bunch, but that's their job, and I find it preferable to how Buck and Aikman sometimes seem as if they're made of some strange sort of fleshy-colored wood.

opinion here
but I think Buck sucks as a football man, so I wouldn't lose sleep if he disappeared.

I actually think, though I've never 'liked' any Cowboys or anything related to them, Aikman seems to have his head screwed on pretty straight and he doesn't quite bite on political correctness as Buck does. Joe just jumps on whatever bandwagon is best at the time.

We didn't even have a chance for the "perfect season", but we did have the perfect ending.

I like Keith Olbermann.
He defended Eli back when others were giving him a hard time.

Olbermann
Not a big Olbermann guy. I used to love Dan Patrick, but when he rejoined DP's show I pretty much stopped listening. Olbermann has moved on to politics, and should stick with that.
