New England Patriots' fans everywhere are stunned today. ESPN's Bill Simmons offers up a pretty typical reaction. Over at Pats Pulpit they are referring to last night's defeat as 'Ultimate Humble Pie.' I know it doesn't taste very good.

SI.com's Don Banks says the Giants showed the Patriots what they used to look like.

Maybe the most surprising thing about Sunday's outcome was that despite the Pats' 18-game win streak, the Giants, with their modest three-game winning streak in the playoffs heading into the Super Bowl, played like they were the hotter team. To quote the NFL's rather lame Super Bowl XLII catch-phrase, they wanted it more. They out-hit the Patriots, they out-hustled them, they out-played them at every key moment of the game.

No matter how you look at it, the Super Bowl was a great show. And it was the most watched game in Super Bowl history.

The only bad news of the day for Giants' fans is that Steve Spagnuolo will interview with Washington on Tuesday for their vacant head coaching job.

Here is a list of 10 places the Patriots can place blame.

judging from the talk among the skins fans i know here in DC, the head coaching jobs is spags' to lose at this point. the superbowl win means as long as he doesnt screw he'll be the new head coach of the deadskins. that would suck.

Randy Moss is a talented wide receiver, but he's a horrible human being.

FANS - (Patriots Fans) This year, you became obnoxious, rude, and behaved like spolied little children. You deserve the terrible-empty feeling you have right now. I hope it hurts for a long time. You guys are the worst fans I've seen, with the exception of Philly Eagle fans.

BOTTOM LINE - The New England Patriots are LOSERS. They lost the Super Bowl, they lost the perfect season, and they lost the respect of many around the league.

I'm sorry but football fan 999 is way off base.

Tom Brady has been an outstanding quarterback since the year he took over from Bledsoe. He is not overrated...in fact he was great even when his receivers weren't. He is not a poor sport either. As for last night, blame the great play of the Giants. Don't forget Brady still almost won the game.

Moss? Though he has been squirrely in the past you've got to give him credit for his play and demeaner this year. There is reasonable cause to suspect that the women accusing Moss is an extortionist. We cannot condemn him until it is actually proven he has done something wrong.

Fans? Fans are fans. We're all obnoxious when it comes to our teams.

Belichick? No one thinks he isn't a great coach. His social skills are lacking as is his sportsmanship. He is definitely guilty of vengefully running up scores, making a mockery of press conferences, interviews, injury reports, and generally being a dick. I think his morals are lacking, but we've had Presidents who have done worse.

Have you noticed the absense of any comments from other teams about the films? I suspect that Belichick just happened to be the one that got caught. I hate to say it but the Patriots probably could have given their opponents the equivilant of what he secretly filmed and still won.

Now that I've said that, I'm going to go online and buy one of those t-shirts that say,"18 and 1...Sorry, New England, maybe nest year."

agreed

brady - when it is all said and done, tom brady will likely be one of the top 5 quarterbacks of all-time.

moss - 23 touchdowns is absolutely ridiculous, that record will stand for a LONG time.

belichick - you may not like the guy, but don't forget the part he played when we was with the giants. his character may be lacking but his coaching acumen is unparalleled.

I remember the feeling I had when the Patriots beat the Rams (The Greatest Show on Turf) in Feb, 2002. Huge underdogs, they overcame the odds and pulled off a HUGE upset.

Well, your G-Men just did the same and I envy you the feeling you have; it's simply the best. A gritty, tough, talented team went out there and got it done. And the latest "greatest show on turf" is heading back to Foxboro, MA empty-handed.

couldn't agree more

Over the last 2 weeks I've come to hate a lot of things about the Patriots (which reminds me, TruePatsFan STILL hasn't posted since the game started over 24 hours ago...guess he didn't want to taste the humble pie), but I still respect them as an organization. I saw Brady during his rookie season in a game against the Jets, and I've been a huge fan of his ever since, he's still my favorite non-Giants QB in the NFL. He's one of the all-time greats, and against anyone else I would have been pulling for him last night. Hell, a part of me almost wanted to see them get into field goal position only to shank it at the end of the game, so that the blame wouldn't be on Brady...but then I remembered we've already done that ending.

Moss has impressed me so much this year, and his press conference last night was exceptional. I don't know if I ever remember a player maturing as much and as quickly as Moss has over this past year, and I hope he stays in NE and makes a run at some of Rice's records over the next few years. And Bellichick is still the best coach in the NFL in my mind, and no matter what he ever does, he still has 2 Super Bowl rings with the Giants logo on them that they probably wouldn't have won without him (at least 1 of them for sure).

People went to work today? I'm still fighting off my hangover.

I liked the Simmons article and I was going to send it to my friends who are Pats fans because he can make them aware how huge this win is for us, but then he ruined it at the end with:

"Finally, can you guess the last thing we heard as we were walking (OK, hustling) out of the stadium right after the final play? That's right, it was the sound of euphoric Giants fans chanting, "Eighteen and one! Eighteen and one! Eighteen and one!" Yes, it's safe to say the Boston-New York rivalry has been taken to new heights. As a tennis umpire would say, "Advantage, New York."

I could have watched repeats of the Sportscenter cuts and other stuff for the next 24 hours on top of the previous 24. This never gets old. Relish it; the Patriots didn't lose it, the Giants WON it!

We didn't even have a chance for the "perfect season", but we did have the perfect ending.
