Have draft questions? Ask an expert

I know many of you GM wannabe's spend way too many hours obsessing about the NFL Draft. So, today I'm offering you guys a unique opportunity.

Here is a chance for you to ask SB Nation's draft expert some of your own questions.

Matt Miller runs the SB Nation draft blog, called Mocking the Draft.

Matt is the owner of New Era Scouting and has been in the business of scouting football players since 1997.

He has agreed to take some questions from Big Blue View Nation. Use this thread to ask Matt your draft question (yes, cj, you can ask about Joe Flacco!).

I will pick the best 10-12 questions, send them to Matt and post his answers in Q&A format.

Please try to keep the questions Giants-related. Ask non-Giants questions if you need to, however, if I have to choose between questions to forward to Matt I will give more weight to questions involving Big Blue.

I will give you guys two or three days to come up with questions. Have at it, Giants' fans!

I can't ever remember not feeling
like the draft was offering us up 3 sandbags for a flood.  This year, to mix up my metaphor, it's more like we're sitting on a treasure chest overflowing with diamonds and golden goblets.  It's like we might be better off just trading some of our picks this year for picks in future years when we might actually need them or combine some to trade up for a better player.

I do think we need a better backup QB though, just in case Eli doesn't stay as amazingly healthy as he has so far.  It's gotta be tough for a young player to come in behind another young player, so I wonder whether this is more of a need we could fill with a veteran through free agency instead of spending a pick on it.

I also understand we're well enough under the cap that we might be able to fill whatever other real needs we have with free agents.  Has anyone heard any "cold stove" talk about who the G-Men might go after on the FA front?

So after that tedious intro, here's my totally dumb question:  what are the chances that the G-Men are confident enough with the many young and already productive players that they already have that they package one or more of their picks this year for a higher pick or set of picks this year or in a future year?

No Flacco questions
right now, anyway, but I do have some Giants ones.

First, a pretty obvious one: what positions are the Giants looking to shore up with their first day picks, or will they just be taking the "best player available?"

Second: who are some sleeper prospects that might fall to the Giants in the later rounds (ala Ahmad Bradshaw last year)?

Defensive Ends
On one hand, the Giants have many pass-rushers and achieved great success thereby, and don't seem to need more.  On the other hand, this was the case over the past couple of years, but they continued to draft pass-rushers.

Will they continue the trend this year, or will they  feel content with their pass-rush and not draft any?

Thanks,
giantwolf

Safety
Whart are the chances for the Giants to draft a good one in an early round?

Left Tackle
David Diehl did a great job in his first season at left tackle. However, I can't help thinking that he's more of a stop-gap than a long term solution there.

I'd love to see the Giants get a prototype LT who will anchor the line for the next decade; a real mauler who routinely pancakes DEs and pass-rushing OLBs. Now, I know that the real stud LTs typically go much higher in the first round than the Giants will be picking this year. But do you see anyone that NY may be able to select as a sleeper or a project who may one day be the kind of long-term mainstay at LT that I'm talking about?

general draft question
what position has the most depth in the draft?  will the giants be able to use it to pick up value in the later rounds of the draft?

Playmaker Safeties in this year's Draft?
Are there any really high-impact/playmaker safeties in this draft?  An Ed Reed/Troy Polamalu/Bob Sanders type?

Or are there any OLB's that could be converted into such a player?

Small Schools
Do you think smaller schools and non-D1 divisions are closing the gap from a talent standpoint to the more well-known schools in D1?  If this is the case, where can a team like the Giants, who have historically found those schools (Morehead State, western Oregon) to be good talent producers, find value (Name Names!) if competition for these players becomes more competitive?
