Is the Jessica and Tony Show a distraction to the Cowboys?

Here is today's Jessica Simpson Photo of the Day.
We have to do the Tony Romo-Jessica Simpson story some time this week, so let's get it out of the way.

If you've been paying any attention, you know Romo and Simpson, along with other Dallas players, spent part of their bye week making nice in Mexico.

Is the Simpson-Romo relationship a problem for the Cowboys? Is their star QB thinking about football, or about getting into Jessica's pants?

That's the question everybody seems to want answered.

Cowboys' coach Wade Phillips said "I don't have any problem with it."

Even if he did he wouldn't tell the media.

Personally, I have no idea if Romo is distracted, or if last week was just a nice break for him and no big deal.

I do know that the blogosphere is having a blast.

Heavyweight blogs like Deadspin and The Big Lead are having a field day.

As Giants' fans I guess we should just sit back, enjoy the show and hope Romo uses up all of his best passes off the field before Sunday.

I read a blog
that said Joe Simpson set his daughter up with Tony Romo so he could score free tickets to games.
"and there is your dagger!"

absolutely not
The Cowboys could care less who Romo dates or where he goes outside of Valley Ranch reports the Star-Telegram.

The resounding message from the locker room regarding any potential distraction or theoretical lack of focus was surmised by linebacker Greg Ellis:

"I don't care if he went to the moon -- as long as when 3:30 comes on Sunday he is throwing touchdown passes I don't care where he was at," Ellis said. "He has a personal life. I don't think he did anything this weekend that is going to hinder him from performing on Sunday."

Oh my
I love that picture, I'm a big fan of the stars and stripes bikini, putting one on Jess is a piece of heaven

Gary Myers said in todays Daily News that there are numerous distractions for Dallas, Romo-Simpson, TO's injury, and rumors are floating that if the Giants win JJ is going to can Wade Phillips so he can promote Jason Garrett and not lose him to another team. Based on this, Myers is picking the Giant to win 28-24

by Jim Schmiedeberg on Jan 8, 2008 12:40 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

and Myers knows this how??
last time I checked, he's a NY writer so how would he know anything about whats going on in Dallas??

If you base your picks on unsubstantiated rumors and pure speculation, I'm certain you don't pick many winners.

Terry
Gary Myers is one of the best known NFL writers in the country, used to be on Inside the NFL every week, and COVERED THE COWBOYS FOR YEARS FOR THE DALLAS MORNING NEWS, so I think he may be qualified. I really don't think he is going to write an article like that based on "unsubstantiated rumors and pure speculation", do you? He doesn't cover Brittney, he covers the NFL.

He isn't really a "NY writer" per se, he is an NFL writer. Go look at his archives, its not just about NY teams

these distractions are going to sink the cowgirls
romo didnt learn his lesson when jessica distracted him last game.  once the giants win, i be you'll see a full scale revolt from everyone on the team.  great timing romo.  i guess thats why he'll never make it past a mid level qb.  his poor decision making skills and lower intelligence is being exposed.  following next year, that idiot owner jerry jones will draft tim tebow and it will be the end of the romo era.  i feel bad for anyone who bought his jersey.

LOL
you crack me up dieeaglesdie, I don't think I've come across someone more full of BS in all my life. Do you actually believe the garbage you write or are you always this delusional?

Everything you wrote is complete and utter nonsense.
Romo was never distracted by Simpson, as some of his best games this season were while she was in attendence.

Romo happens to be an elite QB in this league. Now  Manning, your Manning, is mid level, at best.

Romo has some of the best decision making skills of any qb in the league and had one of the highest scores on the womderlic tests at the combine. Seems like the person with low intelligence is you.

I think deep down you're a huge Romo fan but feel too insecure in admitting as such and probably wish you had a #9 jersey.

BTW, if Jones decided to draft Tebow, he will be an idiot because he totally sucks. But then again, it doesn't surprise you think he's any good.

I thought you weren't going to degrade people?
"Seems like the person with low intelligence is you" sure sounds like it.

if he was being called out, like a pitbull on crack.

and dane cook
and john mayer, and bam margera, and about 90 other losers that got to this ho before romo.

Here is
Another writer who probably knows "nothing about whats going on in Dallas" as Terry said

He's from the Fort Worth Star Telegram

He also talks about Jerry Jones possibly firing Wade Phillips

http://www.star-telegram.com/sports/columnists/jim_reeves/story/391761.html

But what does Gary Myers know? He's just some dumb NY writer who makes predictions based on stuff he makes up

by Jim Schmiedeberg on Jan 8, 2008 1:14 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

what does that article have to do
with what Myers reported? Jones is contempleting firing Phillips simply because he doesn't want to lose the best offensive mind in football in Jason Garrett. Now of course thats all media speculation, which you seem to take as gospel, poor fellow.

by Terry on Jan 8, 2008 6:00 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Give jrs credit
He earned it here. He found a Dallas source reporting the same info you were trying to discredit since it came from a New York source. Yes, it's all speculation. Tell me the truth, though, Terry. Would you rather lose Phillips or Garrett? And don't give me 'we won't lose either one.' Garrett's a hot commodity and the Cowboys are going to have to do something unconventional to keep him.

by Ed Valentine on Jan 8, 2008 6:46 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

definitely Phillips
simply because Phillips is old and will retire soon anyway while Garrett is young and brilliant. Seems like a no brainer to me.

I don't expect Romo's jaunt to Mexico will hurt
his game, althought media attention might put more pressure on him than might otherwise be the case.  Anyway, I'll bore you young guys with a story about one of the all time NFL carousers, Bobby Layne (who QBd Detroit, yes Detroit, to several championships.)  The night before a championship game with the Giants in NY, his Steeler team mates wouldn't let him out of his room to make sure he didn't show up for the game with a hangover. Cold sober the next day, Layne had one of the worst games of his career.

Seems to me...
...that there is a weird trend in the coverage of this game that is perpetuating the idea that the Cowboys are somehow at a disadvantage.  TO is hurt, Romo is distracted, Wade might be a lame duck, etc.  This seems like sandbagging to me.  I'll bet Owens is just fine (or at least as healthy as Plaxico).  And Romo in Mexico is a non-story.  What, a week isn't enough time to prepare for a team he's played twice already this season?  The Cowboys are a deserving favorite, and those of us who are Giants fans should just tune out all the noise coming from Texas (and parts southwest).

What we need is:

  1. Eli to play another turnover-free game
  2. Strahan to somehow play like it's 1998 again
  3. Another strong day running the ball with Jacobs and Bradshaw
  4. A break or two on defense
If we get those things, then Tony and Jessica will be able to take a long holiday after Sunday (this is assuming she doesn't move on to, say, Steve Nash or Dirk Nowitzki sometime late in the second half)

by drunkUncle on Jan 8, 2008 1:45 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I'd prefer
For Strahan to play at his 2001 level...3 years more recent, and it was the best defensive season by a defensive lineman since...ever (regardless of the last "sack".)

just so you know
favre didn't lay down, he just didn't want to get crushed. He's reacted the same in other situations that were comparable.
"and there is your dagger!"

You're kidding, I hope
I know you love Brett, but c'mon. Go watch the tape. You know, and I know, that he rolled to Strahan's side on purpose and laid down right in front of him. It was a gift, plain and simple.

3 more Lane facts
He dided of cirrhosis (surprise, surprise), in the nineties was voted to the list of the hundred greatest football players, and he laid "the curse of Bobby Layne" on the Lions when he was traded to the Steelers in '58.  If the Lions don't win next year, the curse will have been fulfilled.  His drinking buddy was John Henry Johnson, a wild man running back who once picked up the chains and attacked the other team's players.
Okay, I'll shut up now.

NFL Films...
...did a good profile of Bobby Lane, a long time ago.  They went through some of these stories and commentary from his contemporaries.  Good stuff.

Who can begrudge Romo a long weekend at the beach?

In related news, Eli hit the drive-thru at Taco Bell for lunch today...it's rumored he requested extra hot sauce packets with his order...I hope last week isn't going to his head...

by drunkUncle on Jan 8, 2008 1:57 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

LOL!
Good point on the media & tuning them out. They now seem to think Dallas is not even a contender anymore & are jumping all over the Seahawks.

Cool Story George
I've heard the first part of that story, but not the second

How about Max Mcghee, who didn't expect to play in Super Bowl I, drank all night, played with a sever hangover and won the MVP?

by Jim Schmiedeberg on Jan 8, 2008 1:55 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Oh yeah, another classic NFL story. Max had
been a real good ball player in his earlier years.  I saw that game and no one could believe what Max was doing.
