Now you can buy a 19-0 commemorative book
Well, we've had the 19-0 shirts. Now, we have a commemorative 19-0 book you can already buy from Amazon.
This was written by the Boston Globe.
I don't know about you guys, but all of this "assumption" of 19-0 is starting to tick me off. Yes, the Patriots SHOULD win. If, however, the Giants pull off the upset crap like this will make it even sweeter.
Major kudos to Ryan, a Cowboys fan who was aggravated enough by this to send it along. So, we get to be mad at the Patriots and learn that not all Cowboys' fans are evil at the same time. How about that?

Capitalism at its finest
And your Cowboy friend's team has already anointed itself Greatest Team Ever: The Dallas Cowboys Dynasty of the 1990's, so he's got his own issues.
terribly sorry...
this is along the lines of the unpardonable sin of christmas decorations going up before halloween. as a patriots fan you have my abject apology for the tastelessness from an otherwise quality newspaper. (well the professional home of charlie savage anyway...)
which paper was it that had the "Dewey defeats Truman" headline? ah that was chicago, never mind...
btw... not all boston papers are so silly...
No, but
fair enough...
But
disclosure
It fries me that there's certainly a lot of ink spilled trying to convince the Globe's readers that Boston is first and foremost a baseball town, in spite of the Patriots' ratings that prove otherwise. Columnist Dan Shaughnessy semi-regularly prints some fluff piece on the Red Sox being the town's true love. It might be his, and the Globe's, (and heck I follow the Sox and cheer them on too,) but Joe Fan is heart, soul, and gut into the Patriots.
really?
how long has that been the case? I'm apparently a bit out of touch with this...
that's why they have the worst sports section
the daily news, post, newsday and star-ledger all blow the Times out of the water with their sports coverage.

but
the patriots could win the super bowl for the next 500 years in a row and the first love of boston would remain the sox.
it's a lot like chicago. the cubs always come before the bears (and of course the white sox).

to be fair
i disagree
plus, NYC is the flagship city for basketball. think about Rucker Park and all the other historic basketball sites all around the City.
there is of course a huge Yankees following but there are just as many people that either hate the Yanks or root for the Mets. The Giants and Jets are split and their fanbases extend to Long Island and Jersey.
i know the Knicks are pathetic, but I still think when talking specifically about New York City (the City itself that is) basketball is the top game in town.

I still say baseball
Just as a comparison: I wasn't alive, but I have a feeling if you went back and looked at old sports pages, you'd find that the Mets 1969 World Series was more heavily covered than either the Jets SB or the Knicks NBA Championship that year. Similarly, I'd bet the 1986 Mets were more heavily covered than the '86 Giants. And I know for a fact that the 2000 World Series was more heavily covered than either the 1999 NBA Championship (featuring the Knicks) or the 2000 Super Bowl. And those are just years when multiple NY teams were in championships...add in the late 70's, '96 and '98, and '01 Yankees, and you have a decent amount more coverage/interest in baseball.
that's a good point
i also forgot about the 50's, when obviously baseball was the top dog with the dodgers/giants/yanks.
it's an interesting argument. i think we can all agree that's why NYC is the best sports city in the country.

Shaughnessy: Sox wins are better than Pats
this is what happens
god help us if the cubs ever win the world series.
just as a side note, im not sure about all other cities but the boston sports writers have to be the biggest homers i have ever seen. especially shaughnessy who has basically guaranteed a red sox pennant in may of each of the last three seasons (only one of which came true). just as a comparison, the NY Daily News and NY Post picked against the giants in both the green bay and dallas games.

yes, but in boston
long suffering?
I think the Giants had the last SB title (one) for a N.Y. pro football team and that was back in 1991. I would characterize Pat fans long suffering my friend.

I think he was talking about before this Pats run
Long suffering Boston fans?
If so...
And maybe you don't know, that in the entire history of the NFL, N.Y. football teams have won a total of two Super Bowls. When Sunday's game is over, they'll still be stuck at two victories. The N.Y. football past wasn't too good, the immediate future looks worse.

Simple addition
If you're gonna come over here and troll, at least don't embarrass yourself.
My bad...
Restated: Patriots 4 - All N.Y. Pro Football Teams 3

dude
why do you keep mentioning them? what do they have to with anything? the jets have sucked forever and the bills are Canda's team. i know they're your main "rivals" in that pathetic division of yours, but they really have nothing to do with the Giants.
if you really want to stack up the Pats championship history against the Giants (the kind that our buddy george cronin remembers), then your current run isn't worth dick to what the Giants have done (six titles = 1927, 1934, 1938, 1956, 1986, 1990). but dont worry, you're halfway there. unless bruschi, harrison, seau, and vrabel are getting any younger, you will still have a lot of catching up to do once this run ends in the near future.
oh and congratulations on your Super Bowl "history" a tradtion that's SIX whole years long! Fuck the Steelers and 49ers...this Patriots franchise is really the flagship of NFL success!

Please...
Yes, the Steelers & the Forty-niners prior glory will sadly be forgotten as this Patriot team comes into it's own. But, the game goes on, it's new heros are crowned, it's new dynasties worshiped.

Hubris
It's a little scarey to hear that a flu bug is getting passed around the Giant's roster. I do not need to hear something like, "it caught up with the three members of the offensive line on Sunday morning."
Go Giants!
That's so awesome.
Ugh

Jinxes
Along the same lines, as a Giants fan living in Boston, Giant fan friends of mine and I were talking about how we might celebrate if the Giants were to somehow, miraculously pull off a victory. We came up with the idea of a gathering amongst all Boston-based Giant fans the Monday after somewhere in downtown Boston. However, it might take some advance notice to get a decent sized crowd. So the question becomes if we started to plan such a thing would WE be jinxing the Giants? Would we merely be cancelling out all or some of the jinxing Pats fans and newspapers are doing by banking on a Pats win? Are we so rich with house money at this point that jinxing this game is impossible for the Giants? How likely would we be to get beat up, or at least not served by most bars? Is it a good idea?
Feedback would be appreciated.

Don't mention again
Facebook has groups for all the NFL teams, you could spread the word on there to all Giants fans

wouldn't recommend it...
as far as jinxes go though, take this for what it's worth... there is the famous sports illustrated cover jinx. the pats have been on the cover 4 times so far this year, (I haven't looked this week...) and they haven't succumbed yet...
but you shouldn't be afraid to root for your team where ever you are... of course I'm in seattle, and they don't seem to mind me as a pats fan, but there aren't many of me, and I'm pretty quiet and polite...
cheers.
To be fair...

Go back to your homes, nothing to see here
Just your friendly neighborhood hucksters looking for a piece of the action.
19-0
Tell me it's still available...

It's no big deal
As marketing, it's brilliant, though.
It's called getting ahead of the market. I'm not against anyone making a few bucks.
Let's talk about the Game, OK?
If it will make you feel better
Take it back.
oooh... and I fell for the self righteous fury of the scorned NY fan... ;-)
