Giants move on, Cowboys move out

How sweet was that?

A 21-17 victory, in Dallas, over the Cowboys to get to the NFC Championship Game. Short of winning the Super Bowl, this is as good as it can get for Giants' fans.

I have to admit, I'm a little stunned right now. A few weeks ago, I wasn't even sure the Giants would make the playoffs.

Then, Sunday, trailing, with a secondary down to using a guy who just joined the practice squad a couple of weeks ago, and getting no pressure on Tony Romo I didn't see this coming.

Around the time I was ready to give up hope, out of nowhere came a 25-yard punt return by R.W. McQuarters, followed by a touchdown drive to give the Giants a lead.

Then, after not getting near Romo all day the Giants suddenly had guys chasing him and hitting him from everywhere, covering for their depleted secondary.

In the end, it was McQuarters with his second game-sealing interception in as many weeks assuring the Giants of a berth in the NFC Championship Game.

A place I never thought the Giants were going to get to this season.

Amazing!

I will be back in the morning with 'Kudos & Wet Willies.' For now, though, it's celebration time!

congrats Giants fan...
big win....didn't get to see the Manning face...i'm sure it'll pop up in the frozen tundra....lol...

that said, to the winners go the spoils..you are definitely the winners and we are the losers....my boy Romo will hafta settle for Jessica's va-jay-jay for now....because we'll be hearing about it for the next 10 years...

good luck. enjoy the W. you earned it.

Romo = best QB in the division TO = best WR in the division

Tuna
Terrific game. I still can't believe the Giants won. Good for you for having the class to stop by and offer congratulations.

by Ed Valentine on Jan 13, 2008 8:43 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

that's nice of you tuna
thanks for actually having the class to come back here and say nice things about our team.  it was a good game and really could've gone either way.  that's what makes the NFL playoffs so great, it's a crapshoot.

we've won some, you've lost some in this rivalry.  for today, we can celebrate, but i wouldn't worry too much.  i still think romo is going to be a star for a long time in this league (and im serious, not being sarcastic).

As for the "Manning Face"
Peyton did make one at the end of his game.  It was decidedly Eli-ish.

by Mr Met on Jan 13, 2008 9:35 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

What amazed me most, ET
was the sheer persistence of the defense.  They never quit and don't remember seeing before: they wore down the offense.  The 'boys lumbering offensive line just plain ran out of gas. The received wisdom is that offenses, via ball control, wear out the defenses.  Our defense is a supreb bunch of really well-conditioned athletes. You say it's hard to pick out individualls for kudos, that it was a team affort.  That it was, but Spags and the defense deserve to be singled out for praise.

Pass rush
It came out of nowhere, and it just never stopped. Eleven quarters against Dallas, we got nowhere near Romo. Fourth quarter today, the guy couldn't breathe.

by Ed Valentine on Jan 13, 2008 8:53 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

That's good analysis George
I would never have though of it that way, but your right.

I couldn't help myself...
...had to go see what they were writing on BloggingtheBoys.  My favorite post was from a guy who claimed he'd rather see the Cowboys lose in the divisional round than in the Super Bowl.  Um, yeah. Sure.

Please join me in raising your glass to one Mr. Patrick Crayton, who now joins former Seahawks TE Jeremy Stevens as one of the all-time trash-talking jokers in NFL history!!!!

by drunkUncle on Jan 13, 2008 8:50 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Justice is served
Crayton talks way too much -- as do some Cowboy fans. All I know is we are still playing.

by Ed Valentine on Jan 13, 2008 8:55 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

it's easy to have nice stats
when you are playing opposite TO.  crayton sucks.

Congrats to you guys
From a die hard Redskins fan. Id rather see you guys win 10 superbowls than the Cowboys ever even go to the playoffs again. They talk the most crap out of any team and then all dissappear when this happens. LOL

You guys earned it and look extremely good. Good luck to you next week. Exciting times isnt it. Getting this far is difficult so enjoy it. I remember the skins SB runs and it was soooo long ago, so dont take it for granted.

and hire a class act down there to replace the ultimate class act.

Thanks
Believe me, we don't take it for granted. This has come out of nowhere, with a team that started the year wondering if it's coach was going to get canned and without any expectations. This is tremendous, but now we have to feel like there's more to do.

Thanks Skins!
Thanks for you comment, you have alot of class for stopping by. We must cheer for NFC East as brothers. Eli and the Giants stepped up today big time.

Wow...
was this the best win the Giants have had over the Cowboys?  Has to be.

And it was made even sweeter by seeing Romo throw up his hands and whine at the end and then a fuming Jerry Jones on the sidelines.

Fantastic - the wild ride continues.

I compliment your handle...
"Dr Van Nostran".  I quote:

"I'm Dr. Van Nostran from the clinic."

"Which clinic?"

"Eh, that's right."

Classic episode.

Go G-Men!!!

I'm still in shock, but congrats
Giants played well and deserved to win, but Cowboys really beat themsleves, can't make that many penalties in the playoffs and expect to win.

Good luck in GB, you'll need it.

by Terry on Jan 13, 2008 9:45 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

That was the worst congratulatory note ever.
Try again, Terry.

Looks like you'll be needing a few things yourself:

A new coach,
a new QB,
a box of kleenex for TO....

by Mr Met on Jan 13, 2008 9:55 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

At least
he had the decency to come by and say something.

by Ed Valentine on Jan 13, 2008 10:02 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Yes, that was far more decent
than the time he said we couldn't stop Marion Barber or that he would enjoy his Cabo vacation after winning the Super Bowl.

Yeah man,
you still can't give us any props?... It was a great game, and we stepped up! Your romo was fluttered all day! Just admit it.

Anyway, that was probably the greatest game of football ive seen in a long time! Even just as a football game. That was some great football by both teams. Awesome win Giant fans! I lost my voice...

G-MEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TERRY
you have proven youreself as a class act to me at least. Coming on after what surely what would have put any 13-3 fan in as much shock as can be has to be tough, I can only think back to the Rams  flipper Anderson game in 89 when I laid down with my face in the couch for an hour after the game was over. You have bad taste but a good heart...........See ya next year

One of the sweetest....
playoff victories I have experienced in my 26+ years of being a Giants fan!!!!  Defense was terrific in the second half, esp the final six minutes. Way to go men!!!!

Spag's
Has to stay......Saw him coordinating and talking to the offense and even praying. He is as much part of the character of this team than anyone making plays on the field or the sideline. The New York Giants are going to the NFC championship.

by johnd134 on Jan 13, 2008 10:00 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Yeah,
I saw him praying too. He is a very commited coach. Did you hear the bang when Jacobs threw the ball at the clock after his TD! Loud bang...!

by All Day on Jan 13, 2008 11:08 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Bang
Yeah, that was crazy. What the heck was he doing?

by Ed Valentine on Jan 13, 2008 11:35 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Hard to say but he did exactly the same thing
in Tampa last weekend.  Also, one of the refs spoke to him about after he retrieved the ball - I noticed that.

by Mr Met on Jan 13, 2008 11:53 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Terry...
You're right about needing luck to beat Green Bay.  They simply steamrolled the Seahawks.  We'll have to play a great game to stay in it with them, and it looks like we may have huge secondary issues.

Maybe we should tell the Packers we changed our minds and want Ryan Grant back...LOL

Anyway, thanks for posting, Terry.  I know it's not much fun when your team loses.  See you next year.

by giant fan since 57 on Jan 13, 2008 10:01 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Yes, Terry
thanks for stopping by to talk a lot of bullsh!t before the game and when you were winning, and then disappearing once the tide of the game started turning.  Enjoy your summer, big fella.

by Mr Met on Jan 13, 2008 10:10 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

We could beat the 'boys and did.
As was the case with the 'boys, we could beat GB, but they should win.  They'll be tougher than Dallas beause they're better have a HOF QB and have a better corps of receivers.  Besides, we're up against those injuries in the secondary. But...I live in hope...it's not over till it's over...I can dream, can't I?  At the very least, we should give them a tough battle.  This team has the most character of any Giants team...no, of any team, football or otherwise I can recall.  The only thing I can compare it to is a great fight like Basilio (looking like a gargoyle at the end) beating Robinson.

by george cronin on Jan 13, 2008 11:06 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Sorry, I'm being ungracious to Terry.
I'm taking out my years of Cowboy-hating on him all at the same time.  All those years of Jerry Jones and that freakish face, Emmitt Smith and his helmet coming off, Michael Irvin and his crack smoking/trash talking, Bill Parcells and his traitorship, the whole world prematurely breaking out the anointing oil for Tony Romo, Troy Aikman openly rooting for them instead of calling a straight game (he wasn't so bad today, in all fairness), et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.

by Mr Met on Jan 13, 2008 10:15 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Whew, that 20 minutes at Blogging the Boys
was great. I was good enough to actually write anything, but that's some fine reading my friends.

As far as GB, the weather is supposed to be atrocioiusly cold - and we saw what the Bears did to GB in that weather. Not that Eli's shown great poise in the cold, but hopefully those 38-year old bones will freeze up.

by maw150 on Jan 13, 2008 10:16 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Actually,
The cold weather didn't beat the Packers in Chicago on their 2nd trip of the year there, the wind did.

I'd get that right before spouting off a bit more.

Congrats Big Blue
Die hard cowboys fan.  Just wanted to give you guys your due.  I thought we (dallas) killed our team with drops and penalties but you kicked our O-lines butt at the end.  You deserved the win for playing a mostly penalty free game.  Good luck next week I think you will need it but who knows maybe you can keep the mojo working.

absolutely.loving.it.
i've been on BBV all year but never felt the need to subscribe until tonite.  this win was absolutely vindicating.  when i moved to the washington DC area from jersey, i was shocked to see how many cowboys fans there were down here.  and they really are the most obnoxious, arrogant and cocky fans i've ever met.  tonite was just absolutely beautiful....i was at a sports bar...with about 50 cowboys fans, about 25 redskins fans...and myself being the lone giants fan in blue.  and it was awesome to have all the skins fans rooting for us because they hate the cowboys.  i'm gonna be enjoying this all week...all while praying for another giants win @ greenbay.  GO BIG BLUE WRECKING CREW!!! ROAD WARRIORS BABY!!! JACOBS & BRADSHAW = THUNDER & LIGHTNING!!!

What a win!
I can definitely sympathize - I'm a Giants fan who moved to Philly last September and I don't think there's a worse place to live if you're a fan of the G-men.  The best part of this win will be how I get to walk into work tomorrow morning as the only Giants fan in the office, with my team still playing and my head held high.  F-ing awesome.

The only question now is will my Umenyiora jersey go well with the suit and tie tomorrow.  I say yes!

Welcome aboard, Iron
Yes, we are floating. It is amazing how the Cowboys draw sooo much hatred from sooo many places.

Unfortunately,
I haven't watched the whole game yet. I was in Boston for the weekend and spent all day today driving back to DC, trying to avoid hearing anything about the game since I had my TiVo recording it and I wanted to watch it without knowing what happened, but then my friend (a huge Eagles fan) just texted me thanking the Giants for knocking out the 'Boys, so I had to come on here and find out what happened and celebrate a little bit, and share a story:

I'm a huge Mets fan, and I went to the last game of the season (on my birthday), when the Mets completed their collapse...that was probably the worst sports related moment of my life. My dad and I left that game miserable, but we had tickets for the Giants-Eagles game that night, and even though I was terrified that another Philly team would rip my heart out, I went to the game and watched the Giants dominate the Eagles with their 12 sacks, and it was the best therapy I could have imagined. That night I fell in love with this Giants team more than any other I can remember, and was convinced they were going to the Super Bowl. Then, I went to the last game of the season against the Pats, and as I was leaving the stadium I went to the bathroom, and everyone was pretty depressed. As I was walking out I said to one guy, "hey, we'll just kick their asses when we play them in February" and I really believed it at the time. The guy smiled and said "hey, you're right. That's the solution." Well, now here they are, a game away from getting a chance to do just that, and I couldn't be more excited. LETS GO GIANTS!

by cjmulrain on Jan 13, 2008 11:59 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Great story, cj
That game was the best possible therapy for the Mets' season.

Chicago
Is where i live and it is good to know next week the  city of Chicago will all be Giants fans. Yeah...they don't like Green Bay too much around here.

by johnd134 on Jan 13, 2008 11:59 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

It was a great win, and I feel great
The giants showed a lot of grit, and they kept coming.

But I will have to say that the Cowboys had the chance to take it right until the end.  Stupid penalties, a couple of bad decisions by Romo, and dropped passes had a lot to do with it.

In the end, the Giants made the plays they needed to, and the Cowboys didn't

by NYERinSF on Jan 14, 2008 12:05 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

I went to the game
and was the only Giant fan in my section. I am still hoarse from screaming. For the most part, the Cowboy fans were pretty cool until the 4th quarter. Hey, I would have been upset also.

Go Giants!

by NYERinKY on Jan 15, 2008 10:48 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Wow,
that must have been the best feeling. Going to their house and comming away with the divisional win! I'm still a little hoarse tooo.

by All Day on Jan 15, 2008 2:51 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Yep, I had
a blast! I was praying at the end though. I thought we were about to give the game away.

The 'boys fans think we will be romped by the Packers this week. I just pointed out that they also thought the Cowboys were going to romp us. Everyone was nice pre-game because they were so confident, I think. (I'm also female, which may have helped. lol)

by NYERinKY on Jan 15, 2008 3:04 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Yes,
I guess that would help if you are a female. I bet as a guy, I would have had beer bottles thrown at me. I've been to the Linc tailgates and they are terrible. Giant fans have alittle more class then most teams.
