A look into the BBV crystal ball

One day until training camp starts for real, and that means it's time to go out on a limb.

Who knows what can happen between now and the Sept. 9 season opener with injuries, waiver pickups, etc. With that in mind, though, let's look into the Big Blue View crystal ball and see how close we can come to predicting what the Giants Opening Day roster will look like.

Here's my guess at what the 53-man squad will look like when it lines up against the Miami Dolphins.

Brandon Jacobs, Reuben Droughns, Ahmad Bradshaw

Offensive Line
Starters - David Diehl (LT), Rich Seubert (LG), Shaun O'Hara (C), Chris Snee (RG), Kareem McKenzie (RT)
Backups - Guy Whimper (T), Zach Piller (G), Gray Reugamer (G/C), Matt Lentz (G)

Defensive Line
Starters - Osi Umenyiora (DE), Michael Strahan (DE), Barry Cofield (DT), Fred Robbins (DT)

just one problem...

Backups - Justin Tuck (DE), Adrian Awasom (DE), WILLIAM JOSEPH (DT), Jay Alford (DT), Marcus Bell (DT)

is there any way joseph can be replaced?  i mean not only on the active roster, like with an extra concessions guy or something?  id rather carry an extra guy that can help carry Coughlin's headphone cord around then see joseph back.

Indeed
I was thinking the same thing when I read that line.

Also, what about Adam Koets? You don't think he'll make the cut?

Koets
If there isn't room for him, which there might be depending on how many defensive linemen are kept, I think he will end up on the practice squad.

practice squads
something ive always wondered about that ive never got an exact answer on is how many players can be carried on a practice squad?

i think i remember the colts having 7 guys last year.  is there a universal number that each team has?  or a min/max?

I believe it's 8
but I am efforting to get you an exact answer on rules governing the practice squad.

I was right
It's 53, PLUS an eight-man practice squad. So, guys like Koets, who might be ready to contribute but could help down the road, can be kept there.

I want him replaced
I desperately want Joseph off this team, replaced by either another defensive or offensive lineman. Since he's still around, though, I don't think it will happen. If they weren't going to keep him I think they would have cut him in the off-season.

Hefty Lefty
He was ahead of Hasselbeck on the depth chart and Coughlin loves him. I see no reason he won't make the team.

Add to the Mix
I was glad to see that you included Anthony mix to your list of wide recievers. After seeing this guy in preseason last year I was suprised not to see him on the final roster. How much could it hurt to have another 6'5" wide-out that you could throw jump balls to? If this kid has prepared as well as he should have during the offseason , he could well end up surprising a lot of people. Not many, even die hard fans that I talk to have mentioned this kid. Imagine  him and Plax as starting wide recievers and GIANTS would be a fitting name for this group.

In the Mix
To me, Mix is in the hunt with Michael Jennings (who I think is SOL), Brandon London and Kevin McMahan for a roster spot. As you said, the size is what attracts me. You can always find a way to get the ball to a guy that big, provided he shows he can catch it in traffic.

Lorenzen
Not only will hefty make the team he will be the #2 behind Eli.  Signing Wright was a bad choice.

Lorenzen
It's hard to be down on the guy, since he's played so little.  Given his physique, as a QB he intrigues me.  Because he intrigues me, I.m rooting for him.  He must be showing something to have hung around so long, bumping other contenders for # 2 along the way.
