Favre, Packers not on same page

It seems obvious now that Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers don't see eye-to-eye on what is best for the franchise.

Fox Sports reported Sunday that Favre asked for a trade after the team failed to acquire wide receiver Randy Moss from Oakland. Moss, as we know, ended up in New England.

Favre, of course, is near the end of his Hall of Fame career and would like one last shot at a ring. It seems Packer management is not inclined to mortgage the future to give it to him.

Here, according to Fox, is what Favre said to reporters on Saturday.

"I just want to win; maybe I see things the wrong way," Favre said. "I don't want to ruffle any feathers and I want people to respect me. Sometimes I think it's hard for them to let Brett go. They might think that we pay him a lot of money, but he still gives us the best chance to win. I've never been told that, but there are times when I wonder if I'm the odd man out here and they just don't know how to tell me.

"Our offense struggled last season. If it were not for our defense, we would not have won eight games. Right now, it's hard to be optimistic. I'm not getting any younger and I think everyone knows that. I don't have five years to rebuild. No one in Green Bay is saying rebuild but it's hard to look at where we are going and say, 'How can they not be rebuilding?'

"I don't know if I've lost faith, and I think everyone in the organization wants to win. I just don't know if it includes me. If it's going to be five years from now, I'm not going to be here. This is 17 years for me and I want to win."

The Packers can spin this any way they want, but it looks like the ending won't be harmonious between the Packers and one of the greatest players the team has ever had.

Here's more on the strained relationship between Favre and Green Bay management from SB Nation's fine Packers blog. Acme Packing Company

Speaking of SB Nation's other blogs, let's look around at some of the best work done recently around the network. It's something I'd like to do every so often. Let's call it Touring the Nation.

favre
is the greatest QB ive ever seen but all of these comments annoy me.

if he wants his way all the time, maybe he shouldn't leave the packers guessing every offseason on whether he'll retire or not.

as great as he's been and even though he's an icon, the packers don't "owe" him anything.
