Giants at Eagles, Open Thread

Game: Giants (8-4) at Eagles (5-7)
Time: 1 p.m. EST
TV: FOX

The Giants face the Philadelphia Eagles today with a chance to sweep the season series, earn a playoff berth and pretty much dash the Eagles' slim playoff hopes.

Unfortunately, the Giants are beat up. On defense, Gibril Wilson is out, James Butler and Aaron Ross are iffy and Antonio Pierce is a game-time decision. On offense, Brandon Jacobs is a game-time decision.

Nonetheless, it would be a great win for the Giants if they can pull it off.

Consider this your open thread. By the way, I won't be around this afternoon as I have family obligations to attend to. Get a good discussion going amongst yourselves, and I'll check in tonight or tomorrow after I've had a chance to watch the tape of the game.

NY papers
picking philly.  not that im surprised, or that i dont think the eagles will win, just worth noting.  the only game that they've picked the giants to win in the past two months is minnesota.

eagles
I'm watching this with an Eagles fan.  It's difficult to tell who hates their team more

Wow
That's almost a heck of a kick by Akers.

Feagles is good.  If he doesn't pin the Eagles back there at the end, I think we're going to overtime right now.

Once again
it comes down to the last seconds and our defense.

Thank goodness.

making sure
the punt team is perfect, the only way you can lose there is a punt block or return is for a TD. The Giants lost a game under Fassel to Philly where that exact thing happened. Good move by TC.

ugh
Fucking Westbrook.  Did you HAVE to remind us of that game?

After today,
no one can say the Giants biggest problem is the defensive secondary.  To keep winning games like these says a lot about this team's toughness.    I'm impressed.

Agreed
I thought the secondary played well today. Granted Philly's receivers aren't great, but impressive nonetheless. Also, good to see Eli protect the ball. Now we just got to get Jacobs to hold onto the ball.
If I'm going to break them, I'm going to break them both. - LT

playoff bound?
is it time to start resting the players for playoffs yet?

this team continues to find ways to win
and thats what playoff football teams do.

i still have to eat about six rolaids every quarter, but winning is fun.

One last thought
Those two rookies deserve promotions to the first team.

Wow!!
Got home, sat down, watched the tape before checking in. I knew the score, but what a finish! Damn, Akers is a good kicker! I thought he had not shot to make that kick, but it could have been good from 60-62 if it was a little straighter. I'll take the win, but man that was close.

i was so sure he would make that kick
it made the win that much sweeter.  i hate akers like i hate papelbon.  that's why its great to see them fail.

We actually
moved the ball effectively a few times, keeping our defense off the field. To be inside the 10 yard line a few times, resulting in two field goals and one fumble, is pretty weak. Too many points left on the field.

Ugly, ugly win. Shouldn't have even had to come down to that kick. How many times have I thought that though?

Ugly but it's one more in the 'W' column.
