Giants vs. 49ers, Open Thread

Game: Giants vs. 49ers
Time: 1 p.m.
TV: FOX

Are the New York Giants really any good? Have they just teased us with a four-game winning streak? Are they just beating up on inferior competition? Is this going to turn into a memorable season?

I really don't know. We get a better idea if the Giants are for real today against San Francisco, though. Even with Trent Dilfer subbing at QB for the injured Alex Smith, this is a team that expected to be better than 2-3.

Consider this your open thread. Not sure I am going to be around for the game. I may have to record it and watch later. Either way, feel free to get a good discussion going.

Gmen
Well, let's see if big blue can handle being the hunted. Go Gmen!

Tuned in a bit late today
and missed the PAT - all I saw was Coughlin stalking Tynes down the sidelines chewing his ass.  What happened there?

snap
looked like a bad snap.

Thanks.
Sounds like we need to give Trey Junkin a call.

Too bad on that interception
that was some old-time Giants run it down their throats football until that happened.

Good half
Gmen are playing pretty well ... the defense very well.

Being
in Washington DC sucks.  No Giants game so I've just been using all my energy to will the Redskins to lose.

Solid win
Despite the sloppiness at the end. Winning the games they need to.

Niners Nation
I'd actually be excited about containing Plaxico if we hadn't gotten the shit kicked out of us and turned the ball over like crazy.  All around solid performance by you guys.

Penalties
And the penalties were brutal. The Giants were penalized just as much, but it seemed to hurt the Niners more.

Thanks, Fooch!
You've been great all week. I watched the game on tape (it was a beautiful day in NY and I spent it doing some family stuff and playing a little golf). Nice win.

Thanks dood.
I love a good sport.  I was having flashbacks of our playoff game with you the whole time.

Good luck the rest of the way.

5-2
Big Blue just keeps taking care of business. This is turning out to be a lot more fun than it looked like at 0-2.

good game
out played them and if it were for stupid mistakes it would have been a huge blow out.

one question: why is ward getting so many touches in short yardage and at the goal line?  hes a great weapon and i have no problem with spreading the carries out, but jacobs is your goal line guy.  period.  KEEP FEEDING THE BEAST.

I've wondered
about that, too. I think they are simply trying to keep Jacobs from taking too much of a beating. I believe that later in the season when those carries are really crucial you'll see Jacobs in there.

Since I live in the SF area
I listened to the San Fran sports talk post game show. They were brutal on the team. They declared their TE (the niner's number 1 pick and highest paid TE) an official bust. They think the QB situation is a disaster, even if Smith was in, and want the number three in instead of Dilfer. I wasn't sure if they wanted Nolan fired, or shot. But in general, these are really pissed off fans who think their team sucks, and don't even see the nucleus of a good future. Now, this could be just talk radio taking it to extremes, but they didn't have much good to say about the niners.

yeah really
they are pissed.  chad's days are numbered.

post game shows
I prefer to not listen to the post-game show normally, and especially after a game like this.  I opened my recap of the game by saying how it was embarrassing.  However, I was only embarrassed by certain parts and  did point out ever so briefly that there were some positives to build on.

I've thought of myself as a optimistic realist.  I realize this team is struggling, but I still look towards the potential that is there.  I completely disagree with the radio shows that completely bash the team.  Vernon Davis hasn't turned into a complete tight end yet, but considering the amount of time he's missed in his year-plus in the league and he hasn't even played a complete season worth of games.  When the team gets him involved in the offense things happen.  They need to split him out and get him motion and create mismatches.  The improvement will come.

Primarily people have been calling for our offensive coordinators head, but really it's the offensive line that creates the problems.  I mean who the hell let Umenyiora come untouched to Dilfer?  That's just ridiculous.

Anyways, obviously this is a Giants blog, but I just wanted to get this response to you.

Thanks Fooch
You have been really classy. I'll need to check your blog more often. Being a Giants fan in SF hasn't always been easy. I root for the 9ers any week they aren't playing the Gmen (otherwise my wife would divorce me) ;)

Does anyone
notice that Eli gets a ton of balls tipped at the line?
