New England releases CB Webster

Foxboro, MA (Sports Network) - The New England Patriots released cornerback Jason Webster on Tuesday. The 30-year old Webster, who signed with Buffalo before the start of last season, was placed on injured reserve after breaking his forearm in Week 1 against Denver. He was signed by New England on March 4. In eight seasons with the 49ers, Falcons and Bills, Webster has played in 87 games and has recorded 393 tackles and 11 interceptions. Also on Tuesday, the team placed guard Stephen Neal on the physically unable to perform list and released running back Kyle Eckel. Neal has spent his entire seven-year career with New England and has started 52 of the 55 games he has appeared in. Eckel played in 12 games last season with New England and carried the ball 33 times for 90 yards and two touchdowns.
