Colts' Manning ready to practice

Sports Network | August 26, 2008

Indianapolis, IN (Sports Network) - Indianapolis Colts superstar quarterback Peyton Manning was activated off the physically unable to perform list Tuesday. Manning had been on the PUP list since training camp opened after undergoing surgery to remove an infected bursa sac from his left knee July 14. The two-time NFL MVP was set to practice for the first time Tuesday afternoon. "I am looking forward to getting back out there," Manning told the Indianapolis Star. "It's been a while. I've been doing some things on my own, but it's not quite the same as if you're out there with the team and doing some of the different drills at practice. "I'm glad this day is finally here. As I've said all along, the goal is to be ready for that season opener and I certainly hope to be, and this point I expect to be." The first overall selection in the 1998 draft by the Colts, Manning has never missed a regular season start in 10 pro seasons. The eight-time Pro Bowl selection threw for 4,040 yards and 31 touchdowns last season and led Indy to the AFC South title. In 160 career regular season games, the Tennessee product has thrown for 41,626 yards and 306 touchdowns. He has eclipsed the 4,000 yard passing mark in eight of the last nine seasons and has tossed at least 26 scoring strikes in each season of his career. Manning's 94.7 passer rating leads all active quarterbacks and ranks second all-time behind Steve Young (96.8).
