what do you think the chances are of the Giants completing all five of these ideas...?

1) beating Atlanta this week,

2) winning in Denver (regardless the traveling saga),

3) winning 2 of 3 out of the three consecutive division games to begin the December season (Dal.,Phi.,Wsh),

4) beating favre at the end of the regular season,

5) and finally surviving the playoffs, making the superbowl as a result!?

100-85% (very good chance)

84- 70% (its a possibility)

69-50% (hmm...not so much)

49-20% (it would be a miracle)

19-0% (it cant happen AT ALL)

The hot hand for the second week in a row is from G-Brit. Let's bring this thing back stateside, G-Fans in America!

Seriously, though, G-Brit is on a tear with a record like 88-3 in the last 2 weeks, and got all 5 of his hot hand picks correct last week. So this is probably worth a good look:

Locks of the week

ARI at STL: ARI. As hard as the Rams played the Saints, it does not get any easier with the Cards coming to town.

CIN at OAK: CIN. No doubt no one wants to play the Bengals now, and they are unbeaten on the road facing what must be a very demoralized Raiders team.

Hard to call

MIA at CAR: CAR. Both teams run the ball and both could struggle to stop it. I will take the Panthers as Delhomme, yes Delhomme, is less turnover prone than Henne.

SF at GB: GB. Which GB team turns up? Will the 49ers have any offense? Take the Packers in a low scoring game.

Upset special

The only game that stands out as an upset is TEN at HOU: TEN. The Titans are hot at the moment and the Texans have not taken their game to the next level. Something about Vince Young and Houston at the back of my mind - but I cannot remember what.

Cheers

I come before you a broken fan.

The biggest story coming into next weekend's game might be where we find ourselves at this moment. Before the season started, I have to think you guys were favorites to win the NFC. We were supposed to be a chippy Wild Card contender through the entire year. Now we're likely battling it out for a wild card, and if the Falcons lose we're in big trouble.

So I'm coming over to answer any questions you have about the <strike>stupid </strike>Falcons, who are coming off their worst loss of the year against the Panthers. Do you want to know why Matt Ryan is slumping? How long Michael Turner will be out with an ankle injury? What kind of beer I drink to forget the fact that we just lost to a team that employs Jake Delhomme as its quarterback? Ask away!

Also, if you could please recommend this post so it stays up top for those asking questions, that would be great. Thanks.

We all know what a difference 4 weeks make. The roller coaster that has been our season can turn out to be a fun ride afterall, though. Here's why:

I never would've though that Carolina would edge out Atlanta today; I never would've thought Tennessee would CRUSH Buffalo today; I never would've thought St. Louis would give New Orleans the run that they did today; I never would've imagined that Washington would beat Denver; and I surely wouldn't have given Cincinatti the nod over Pittsburgh.

My thinking may be skewed in all of these situations, I'll give you that. Maybe I am not the NFL-cyphering guru that many here are.

And yet, these unthinkable things, however mighty or small, have happened.

There's hope for us yet. Now let's get healthy and play to win instead of playing not to lose.

The 3-4 is the new defense in the NFL. the Steelers, Ravens cowboys and chargers have all been using it for a while for a big amount of sucess. Denver and and others used it this offseason with good results. I think it will help bring pressure. The only position that we would need is possibly NT but i think the Steelers NT is a FA after this season and maybe we could steal him or maybe trade for Cleveland's Shaun Rodgers.

The line up would be…
DL: Canty, NT (Robbins or replacement), Tuck ( i think he’ll be able to shut down the run well enough)
I also think Jay Alford will make a good 3-4 end but hes out now.

LB: Osi (I dunno if it will work but hes so athletic i think he can do it), Pierce ( or replacement), Boley (kinda like Timmons on the steelers) and then Kiwi or Sintim on the other edge

That sounds pretty scary... and with a NT i think we will have much more talent and

For the first part of the season Ahmad Bradshaw was blowing up defences and Jacobs was starting slow, but now Jacobs has improved and Bradshaw's production is dropping. It seems that Bradshaw's injured foot/ankle is hindering his performance and he might need a rest for a while. At the very least we should start to limit his carries a bit. Jacobs is playing well and is getting fewer carries, which I think we can all agree needs to change. My question for you guys though is: Should we be resting Bradshaw when his productivity isn't at the level we had come to expect?

For the season, Jacobs has 617 yard from 151 carries, an average of 4.1 yard per carry. Bradshaw has 515 yard from 103 carries, an average of 5 yards per carry. While Bradshaw's average is still higher than Brandon's, he has really started declining in the past few weeks. Is this because of his injury or because the opponents have figured him out now and know how to stop him? I think it is his injury that is hurting his ability more than anything else. Other teams may have figured out some ways to combat his running prowess, but that is not what I see. I see a running back who isnt running into tacklers as hard or with as much determination as before. Ahmad used to be dodging and stepping people and taking the big hits if it would get him that little bit further, but now he seems more timid and more reluctant to take the ball and run hard. It really make me feel that if we rested him or just gave Jacobs more plays that we would do better and he would be healthier WHEN we make it to the Playoffs.

Bottom line the New York Giants need to get back to the team they really are. For one Eli is a good quarterback but he isnt a top notch qb Eli is a short yardage qb a dink and dunk. And can hit a deep route every now and then but only if the running game is going, The first 5 games was good but that wasnt who the giants are. Steve Smith and the other reciever got everyone all excited and they forgot Who they are. And when they Get back to the team they really are they will win again. The defense will be fine if they realize they are not the same defense they was, Spags was good at masking the blitz, but only because the front 4 was so good at putting pressure, let the front 4 get back to putting the pressuer on the O line and then set the blitz up. As of now all the Giants Coaching staff need to get off the first 5 weeks and get back to where they need to be. Everyone is afraid to tackle jacobs, and cant catch up with bradshaw Run to set up the Pass. Pressure the O line to set up the Blitz

First off, I'm not throwing in the towel on this season yet by any means. I think we can get it together and still make a run at a playoff spot. We beat Philly and beat Dallas again, and we are in.

I always start formulating my wish list for the Giants in the draft early. After the Plax issue last year and looking at where we were in the draft order, I had Hakeem Nicks at the top of my wish list early. This year, I don't know where we will finish yet. This season has been much of a roller coaster, but right now I want Rolando Mclain, junior middle linebacker for Alabama. AP is getting old and I think bringing in a MLB with the talent of Mclain would be huge. Right now our LBs are a little thin in terms of depth. Mclain is athletic and the quarterback of the Alabama D. He always knows the plays the offense is about the run so you know he gets his studying and film time in. If he isn't available I think we go to another position. I don't think the Giants want a questionable character guy like Brandon Spikes out of Florida.

2nd on the wish list would be Gereld McCoy junior DT from Oklahoma. If he is off the board (which I hope he is cause the Giants have a late pick), being a Syracuse Alumni, I gotta roll with DT Author Jones, who I know is a beast in the middle because I watch him every Saturday.

I doubt we'd go for a WR since we drafted 2 last year. We'll probably let our young guys develop before bringing someone else in. Bottom line is I think we will go heavy on Defense this year.

What do you guys think? Anyone on your wish list?

http://www.bigblueview.com/2009/11/10/1124314/never-to-early-to-talk-the-2010JRSu12009-11-10T05:54:33Z2009-11-10T05:54:33ZFear Not Big Blue Community!

We may have lost four in a row, we may not be the dominant team that it appeared we would be in the preseason, but we are still 5 and 4. We did get five wins and I seriously doubt that Coughlin will be unable to turn things around in New York.

Many teams have had losing streaks and finished well. The Parramatta Eels of Australian Rugby League had a terrible start to the season, at one piont odds getting to 120-1 of them winning the Grand Final, in spite of that the Eels were able to turn it around and actually got to the Grand Final (they lost but still!). I also remind you of the 2007 Giants team, we didnt start great and only got into the playoffs via wildcard, but we won the Superbowl. We didnt let the fact that the patriots were undefeated deter us and make us believe we couldnt win. I realise that this season we started well and are in a downturn mid-season, but other teams have surely come back from this kind of thing and we can too. The only reason I havent given examples of these kinds of comebacks is because I havent noticed them during my NFL-following life (only about 3 years). You guys know it has happened before and I firmly believe we will come back again. Remember: a wild card is still a way to get into the playoffs and it seemed to turn out well for us two years ago.

While the G-Men have slumped into a 4 game losing skid, the players, coaches and the fans have to be feeling pretty down. This team has not played up to expectations coming into this season, but has shown flashes of being good. We're all upset with the coaching staff, but does anyone really think that Gilbride or Sheridan are going to get the axe halfway into the season? Absolutely not. Should they? That's a whole different question. The Giants are an average 5-4 heading into the bye week, but the good news is that key players like Boley, Canty, and even Aaron Ross will all have plenty of time to get healthy. A game and half behind the Cowboys in the NFC East sounds awful, but I still believe this team has what it takes to overcome that and at least make the playoffs, possibly even win the division. I'd rather have this team playing their worst football in the middle of the season before their bye than at the end of the season when the playoffs are fast approaching. So don't hit the 'flush' button on this season just yet, there's still light at the end of this tunnel.

http://www.bigblueview.com/2009/11/9/1123608/im-not-throwing-the-towel-in-justGiantsReignSupreme2009-11-09T01:12:44Z2009-11-09T01:12:44ZWhat the heck?!

The play calling was a little better. The running game was OK. The passing game was better than it's been in
weeks (as far as taking what they gave us). The defense played better, in my opinion, than in recent games.
So what happened?

I think this week's breakdown was a result of a weaker-than-recognized offense. Here's why:

You can't give me any reasonable excuse, try as you might, that we should kick a field goal when we start
out with a 1st-and-10 inside the 5 yard line. There's just no excuse, no excuse. The defense, which has been
made fun, has been critiqued, and has been re-critiqued, stepped up and secured an important turnover. The
opportunity for the offense to capitalize was there like a Christmas gift just waiting to be opened. I'll be
damned if we just took the gift and put it back under the tree. Who in the hell does that? We do, apparently.

People might blame this loss on the defense, and many will focus on the defense because the press has done so
recently. The game ended with a defensive breakdown, so that's the impression that stays in peoples' minds.
Some of the aforementioned criticisms are deserved, but there was one point in the game where the announcers
were discussing that the Giants' possession time was twice that of the Chargers', and we had nothing to show
for it. Why? It's because we POSSESS the ball while scoring NOTHING or scoring VERY LITTLE. Mere possessions
are good sometimes, but not if they happen drive after drive after drive.

The offense can move the ball, they just can't move it once they get inside the 15 - at least on a consistent
level. You say "But the Giants scored two touchdowns!" True. So what? I've noted on several occasions that
we just don't sustain scoring drives regularly enough. And I still maintain that position. Bad play from the
defense has masked the offensive problems that we've had for weeks.

We have so little confidence in our offense that we can't get a TD with a 1st-and-10 inside the 5. To me,
that is just not acceptable. "Well, we had penalties" you say. Yes, we did. It doesn't make it any more
acceptable, does it?

To me, that field goal was more demoralizing than having the TD scored on us at the end. It was a POSSESSION
that meant nothing for us. Scoring a TD would have put it out of reach for the Chargers.

I'm not saying that the defense played with "Steel Curtain"-esque play . In fact, they couldn't be further from that. What I am saying is this: We have to take advantage of the opportunities that our defense DOES give us. People have knocked the defense for weeks, myself included, but they produced turnovers for us today and our offense
didn't get it done. When in the position to be "hero" today, we asked the offense to step up, and they didn't.

We kicked a freakin' field goal. This one took some wind out of the sails for sure. This game will be marked as a "defensive letdown" but the offense sucked when we needed them to step up.

Just FIRE SHERIDAN NOW!!!!!!!!!!!

You've got the bye week - just can him and start over! The Giants aren't going anywhere if they keep him as DC - he's obviously not ready for the big time. What a joke! Desperate times call for desperate measures...

P.S. While you're at it, put Gilbride on a short leash, too... First and goal from the 4 - and you have to settle for a frickin' FIELD GOAL to put you up by only six??? Are you friggin' KIDDIN' me??!!!! How EMBARRASSING!!!!!

Here's what can bolster success for us in the upcoming games:

We have to be less predictable on play calling. Pass on first down sometimes, and I don't mean going for a bomb. Try the intermediate routes from time to time, or better yet, take what they're giving. Let me ask you this: If we try a run on first down and get 6 yards, then what do you think we might call for 2nd and 4? Point is, let's get them to backpeddle, unsure of whether we will pass it or run it in that situation. We can use the short-medium passes to back the defense up a bit, and then run. Or we can run, run, and run more, and then pass when everyone's playing too closely. Either way, we can't be predictable with this chess match. If we can do these things, our offense should be able to sustain long drives, thus giving the defense time to rest and prepare for their next series.

We have to win the turnover battle. The bottom line here is, we can't afford a turnover PERIOD. This will require Eli to make the best decision, as far as pass distribution. It will also require Eli to put the gun back into the holster and back down from the gunslinger mentality. Running backs must protect the ball at all times. If we win this battle, we have a great chance of getting the win.

We have to catch the passes we're supposed to catch, whether we are challenged or not. Wide receivers, you'll have to get open often and early. You'll have to catch passes that hit your hands; you may have to dive for a catch every now and then. You may have to extend for a catch with the knowledge that you may get your block knocked off. And you surely have to catch them if you're wide open. Fight to get open and stay on your routes. Look at some Kevin Boss footage if you're still unsure about what I'm saying.

Special Teams have to tighten up. We absolutely cannot punt bricks, let returners run freely, or be timid about returning kicks or punts. Get out there and make the play, and get off of the field. Quit giving the opposing team so much of a field advantage.

Stupid penalties are unacceptable. When it's 3rd and 4, could we please have at least one series where we DON'T get a false start? Quit letting other teams get into your heads, and move when the ball is snapped. Watch the holding and pass interference, but don't be afraid to coldcock someone if you have to.

The defense has to have a stop once in a while. I know the offense has been sucking lately, and I know the've put you in some tough positions recently, and I know your backfield has sucked worse than a child on a lolipop, and I know that the offense has been putting you back on the field repeatedly, but you have to keep your heads up and do whatever it takes to make Rivers antsy. Hit him often and hit him hard. Force him to make mistakes. Speaking of mistakes, we absolutely have to catch passes that hit our hands. Those are called interceptions, and we need as many of them as we can get. Do what you have to do to get into Rivers' face and cause him pain. Because you have "Can't Cover" out there, it makes it that much more important that you be in their backfield before Rivers can take his 3rd step. AP, this might also cause you to tighten your coverage at times. You will have to lead by example, and the others will follow you; however, that doesn't mean that hanging all on a running back before the ball gets there is acceptable. If we win the battle on the defensive line, we have a great chance of securing a victory. Just get mean, get pumped up, and run them over.

Focus. Put the newspapers down. Whatever your responsibility, play your "A Game" and let everything else go. Play as if your future depended on it. You never know, it just might.

Why isn't the defense playing up to our expectations???

Bill Sheridan wanted to coach the defense from upstairs in the booth, but coach Coughlin demanded that he be on the sideline like Spags. I don't know if he was up in the booth as the LB coach (nor remember what his previous title was) but if the guy wants to see the field from a bird's eye view then maybe that's the way HE needs to coach.

I have sat in the middle section of the endzone at GIANTS stadium and saw the other teams format and said "Oh Shit" before the ball was even snapped, just because it's a completely different view than that on the field.

This teams defense needs to play on a brand new level from here on out
and maybe seeing it from a different angle will help solve some of the alignment problems.

Hey fellas. My name is John and, much like Ed does here, I manage Bolts From The Blue (SBNation's community for Chargers fans).

Each week this season, I've been putting up a FanPost at the upcoming opponent's community and offering to answer any Chargers-related questions in the comments. Some weeks it's been a fantastic conversation, with lots of knowledge being passed back and forth. Some weeks it has turned into nothing but trash-talking (which is the opposite of what we're aiming for). Either way, it's usually fun. So if you have any questions about the Chargers, fire away in the comments section and I'll be sure to answer them ASAP.

A few notes about the upcoming game:

I live in Philly, and since this is as close as the Chargers get to me this season....I will be attending and tailgating. I am not loud and I am not obnoxious. Please don't throw batteries at me.

I grew up in central NJ, so just about everyone I know is either an Eagles or Giants fan. Many of my close friends will not talk to me this week to avoid a big argument.

For the record, I think Eli Manning is a very good quarterback. However, I think Philip Rivers is better. Accorsi and Reese have just done a better job of building the team around Manning.

I am a HUGE Ernie Accorsi fan. I read his book and admire his work. His recommendation of Jerry Reese for the next GM was a classy, and very smart, move.

Despite the Giants record for the past 3 games, I am very afraid of them. The Chargers have had a hard time stopping big, bruising RBs this season.

I hate Jeremy Shockey. I always have. When Giants fans try to tell me that Eli was working with a weakened team in 2007 because he had Kevin Boss in the playoffs instead of Shockey, I know they're stupid.

Please Rec this FanPost to keep it at the top until Sunday. And let's hope for a good, competitive game.

http://www.bigblueview.com/2009/11/3/1112603/bftb-answers-your-chargersJohn (obviousman)2009-11-02T20:53:26Z2009-11-02T20:53:26ZI've tried to remain optimistic

I was still optimistic after the Saints loss where we had a total defensive collapse and chalked it up to a bad week - everyone has them

I continued to be optimistic after the Cardinal loss as our offense looked out of sync, but still had a chance despite playing horribly.

It is hard to remain optimistic after a third week in a row. I can't write it off anymore as just a bad game, our team has serious issues that need to be addressed:

Defensively, something HAS to be done.

1) I think giving Aaron Rouse more snaps with the first team in the middle of the week will prepare him better to jump in on Sunday and contribute more than he did yesterday. He covers better than he whose name we shall not speak of and can help more in the secondary.

2) Other than that we just have to wait for Michael Boley and Aaron Ross to come back to the lineup - Chris Canty would be nice too, but I am not as concerned there as I am about our LBs and DBs.

Offensively, we need to shake things up a bit

3) Domenik Hixon is NOT a receiver, he is a return man. Look at the difference between Hixon letting Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie take the ball from him on the deep post and Hakeem Nicks going up and getting the ball when covered one on one -receivers go get the ball and return men let the ball come to them.

4) Regardless of the score we need to play our game. For two weeks we were screaming about how we got out of our game too quickly offensively - too much passing, not enough running, but towards the end of the third quarter we got just that - running ball controlled scroing that took time off the clock and everyone is in an uproar. If we took the field goal the previous possession instead of going for it on 4th and 8 we would have only been down 13 with a whole quarter to play. Kill clock and let the defense rest...that is how we can win games and come back in games.

5) Let's change our audibles and signals. Defenses have studied us and know what they are getting. Let's switch up the audible calling and signal calling and throw a few fake calls in there. Chris Collinsworth pointed out last week that when Eli Manning yells "Omaha" the real snap is coming. The Eagles listened as they were off the ball quicker than our O-Line on too many occassions. Next game yell "Omaha...hut, hut" and watch everyone jump off sides and get some free plays.

6) Lastly, Eli needs to see the field better. On more than one occassion over the last few weeks, receivers have been wide open, but he is zeroed in on the other side of the field and we aren't taking advantage of the opportunities that are there. He needs to go through his reads and throw it away if nothing is there.

This is a list of 5 things just off the top of my head that should be easy to fix (the exception being the injuries) and can hopefully make an impact. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results (mistakenly credited to Einstein, Mark Twain, and Benjamin Franklin, but actually written by Rita Mae Brown), if we don't change some things WITHOUT changing our fundamentals, I think the Giants will cause insanity for us all.
