After Robert Griffin III completed a 30-yard pass to Santana Moss to give the Washington Redskins a 24-20 lead with 1:38 to play, Manning and Cruz connected on a 77-yard touchdown pass to give the Giants a 27-23 victory in a seesaw NFC East contest at Metlife Stadium.
The Redskins had one final opportunity, but Giants' linebacker Chase Blackburn forced a Santana Moss fumble and rookie cornerback Jayron Hosley recovered at Washington's 43-yard line with 39 seconds left to seal the victory.
The Giants were helped in the second half by four Washington turnovers, three fumbles and and an interception thrown by Griffin.
The Giants seemed to have control of the game after Jason Pierre-Paul stripped Griffin of the ball with 7:18 to play and Linval Joseph recovered, giving the ball to New York at their own 30 with a 20-13 lead and 7:18 to play.
On the first play from scrimmage, however, Eli Manning threw an interception, setting up a Kai Forbath field goal that made the score 20-16 with 5:28 to play.
After forcing a Giants' punt, the Redskins moved 77 yards in seven plays for the go-ahead score, setting up the Manning-to-Cruz heroics.
The Washington drive included a fourth-and-10 conversion, a 24-yard run by Griffin and the 30-yard touchdown pass to Moss.
Griffin finished the day 20-of-28 for 258 yards with two two touchdowns and an interception. Alfred Morris ran 22 times for 120 yards for the Redskins.
Manning completed 26-of-40 passes for 337 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Cruz ended the day with seven catches for 131 yards.
