Giants' injury report: Could Canty play Sunday?

Stay connected for news and updates

Chris Canty, on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list all season following knee surgery, practiced Thursday for the second straight day. Could the veteran defensive tackle make his 2012 season debut Sunday for the New York giants against the Washington Redskins?

Canty hopes so:

"Any competitor is always looking forward to an opportunity to compete. So obviously I'm excited about the game on Sunday. I'm excited about this week, the opportunity to prepare to play in a football game. So it's something to look forward to. It's motivation that I haven't had in the past few weeks, so I'm excited about it," he said earlier this week.

Even if Canty does play Sunday, it would be difficult to expect him to be the Canty of previous seasons after only a couple of days of practice. Can he help the Giants more than Marvin Austin, though?

Key notes from Thursday's injury report would be that defensive tackle Rocky Bernard (quad) is still not practicing. running back Ahmad Bradshaw (foot) was limited.
